REVIEW : Last Union --- Twelve (ROAR! Rock Of Angels Records, RELEASE DATE : 21 December 2018)

LAST UNION is an Italian Progressive/Metal band that features Mike LePond (Symphony X) on bass, Uli Kusch (ex-Helloween, ex-Masterplan) on drums, and as guest James LaBrie (Dream Theater) on vocals!!! Their new album is entitled "Twelve" and its released by Roar!Rock Of Angels Records.

One of the band's strongest points is without any doubt the amazing vocal lines of Elisa Scarpeccio. Really impressive vocals here that along with James Labrie's unique performances rocket this new opus to a higher level. Another thing that impressed me the most are the guitars of Cristiano Tiberi. Sharp, heavy, melodic and with some crazy solos this man is a true guitar genius!!

The opening tune of "Most Beautiful Day" is simple, melodic and dynamic while the next one, "President Evil" (Feat. LaBrie on vocals), is amazing. LaBrie's vocals are superb, as always, and giving the extra something to this really gem of a song. "Hardest Way" is yet another solid track out of "Twelve". A more straight forward tune that features, again, a breathtaking guitar work and a more hard rocking direction. In "Taken" (LaBrie on vocals), we are dealing with a monster melodic metal track. A song that fits perfectly with LaBrie's vocal range and a song that recalls some earlier Dream Theater works. I just love this one! The guitar-driven tune of "Ghostwriter" is very good while the up-tempo and ultra melodic "Limousine" (reminds of Amaranthe) is just killer! I think that the album's best moment is yet another track that features LaBrie on vocals. "A Place In Heaven" is a song that could easily be a Dream Theater song! Just pay attention here to the guitar work by Cristiano Tiberi; simple breathtaking!

"Twelve" is sharp, melodic, heavy, aggressive and features some excellent tunes in it!! The addition of LePond / Kusch, and, of course LaBrie as a guest vocalist, gave more quality to the final result. It's one of these records that every single fan of the modern melodic progressive scene should own.  This album, of course, is a must have for fans of Dream Theater as well as for some guitar freaks out there.

Rating : 8,4/10
