I know that I'm a bit late here 'cause Beast In Black already released a second album, but as they say; better late than never. So, Beast In Black with this debut album titled "Berserker" back in 2017 offered an amazing modern melodic metal album, no doubt about that. Beast In Black was formed by the very talented guitarist/composer Anton Kabanen (ex-BATTLE BEAST).
After leaving Battle Beast, Kabanen formed Beast In Black and his aim was to create a modern melodic metal band with a bombastic sound. The result is this really amazing and solid album that includes heavy and melodic riffs and solos, breathtaking vocals by Yannis Papadopoulos (Wardrum), hooks n' choruses to sing-a-long for months (!!!) and a rhythm section tight as hell. Plus to the above mentioned things, a crystal clear production and there you have a killer melodic metal album.
"Berserker" is an opus that includes both fast-tempos metal songs and some more modern (almost popish metal) tracks. By listening to "Fifth Angel", "Zood The Immortal" or the epic "Eternal Fire" (that recalls EUROPE first two albums...) the first thing that comes into your mind is that Beast In Black is about a damn classic melodic power metal band. With "Blind And Frozen", you have a totally huge modern melodic metal anthem with a chorus line to die for!!! The vocals by Papadopoulos are top-notch, the guitar lines are sensational and in general this is a killer song all the way.
With "Born Again" we have yet another highlight out of "Berserker". The 'theatrical' and passionate vocals by Yannis Papadopoulos are the cherry on top and the chorus line is really out of this world. One of the most interesting moments here is without any doubt the "Crazy, Mad, Insane". Pure pop/metal and with a kinda 'dancable' vibe in it this track is killer (...once again..). "Ghost In The Rain" is a classic metal ballad that includes a beautiful melody in it while in "Go To Hell" the band delivers another stormy heavy rocker with yet another thunderous chorus line!!!
Personally, I find this debut by Beast In Black a damn fine, enjoyable and killer release!!!! The top notch performances by the extraordinary vocalist Yannis Papadopoulos, the high-tech guitar lines by Anton Kabanen and the thunderous rhythm section compose a masterpiece of a debut. If you love bands such as Nightwish, Amaranthe, Dynazty and Thunderstone or if you love the modern metal sound in general, then this is the album that you have to buy!!
