The fact is that the name of the progressive metal/hard rock band of NEED was completely unknown to me 'till now that I received the promo of its forthcoming opus with the title "Hegaiamas: a song for freedom".
Need has already released three records and shared the stage with many big names of the metal world. CANDLEMASS, JON OLIVA'S PAIN, THRESHOLD, DEADSOUL TRIBE and also IRON MAIDEN, SLIPKNOT & MASTODON among others.
The new album starts impressively with the track "Rememory". It starts with a beautiful and so emotional melody and it transforms into a huge and very technical progressive hard rock monster that has nothing to be jealous of many 'big' names of the progressive metal world. The guitars, the vocals, the power and the amazing melody are all perfectly balanced in this gem!!
"Alltribe" is yet another stunning sample of NEED's music. More melody, more excellent guitars and more passion in this breathtaking song. For me, this is a kinda of music that would make Dream Theater proud!!! "Therianthrope" is more aggressive , almost brutal at times, 'difficult' and heavier but without loosing the melody. The same goes to the next "Riverthane" while in "Tilikum", the next song, some doom-ish elements are making their appearances. The track that closes this new record, "Hegaiamas" is probably the song that represents the progressive metal/hard rock sound in general; strong, powerful, technical and with a wild beauty in it!!!
I will close my review the way that I started it ........."this is a great album!! Emotional, aggressive and, at the same time, 'dark' but with plenty of melodies, excellent musicianship and a bunch of some killer and technical songs in it!! Yes, NEED's fourth record is a true masterpiece of an album that grabs you at once!!!"
