ELIXIR / UNLEASH THE MAGIC (2012)

ELIXIR was born in the beginning of 2009, with the idea of forming a Power Metal band mixing speed with melody, but without losing the strength. In order to achieve this, Brunno Navarro (voice), Federico Fleitas (drums), Ignacio Fernandez (Keyboards), Andres Duarte (bass), Marcos Garcia (guit.) and Matias Artecona (Guit.) gathered and started building a powerful band.

Its first name was Excelsior, but due to legal issues they decided to change it to Elixir. The band's very first show was in August 28th at Troya's along with Crepar and Boanerges (Argentina). The response from the crowd was overwhelming. After another two successful shows, Elixir was invited to play as support act for Epica (Holland), a show that allowed Elixir to play in front of 3000 people!
This was a huge step for the band and, due to this, they entered the studio to start the pre-production process for their very first album. During this process, the band was asked again to join an international show where they supported Sonata Artica.

The album starts with the instrumental tune of "Excelsior" and continues with the simply brilliant "Weapons Of Heart". An 80's influenced power metal song with attitude, great guitar work and great arrangements!! This is an impressive start and the pefect appetizer of what's coming-up next!! "Unleash The Magic" is a bit more 'modern' power metal stuff but again very well-crafted. "Until Eternity" is my personal favourite from this album. Harmonies, riffs and melodic solos, powefull performances all perfectly balanced. "Facing The End" is an ok tune  with a  stunning soloing while in "Souls With No Glory" we have the first filler of "Unleash The Magic". very good. The next three tracks are in the same level as the previous with very good arrangements powerfull performances and tight musicianship.

Overall, this is a solid album all the way! It has all the elements of a power metal fan can ask for! It has great melodies, very good songwriting, good performances and a tight musicianship. The few average moments don't bother me at all. Most of the songs are very good and it's a very enjoyable release. In my humble opinion, this band has the talent and skills to take ELIXIR to a higher level in the near future, so I'm waitin' their next big step!
