Sunstorm is a project that started its career back in 2006 with the eponymous self-titled debut. With Joe Lynn Turner on vocals the band released five solid melodic hard rock/AOR albums that some of them remain classic in my book. Time changes and in 2021 was the time for SUNSTORM to open a new chapter in its career. Lords of Black and Rainbow singer Ronnie Romero was the choice to took the place of Turner behind the microphone. With Romero on lead vocals the band released two albums and nowadays SUNSTORM is ready to unleash brand new music through the new opus.
Ronnie Romero expressed his enthusiasm for the release, by saying: “I really love the new album! I believe it keeps the Sunstorm essence with an AOR base, but bringing a fresh more guitar oriented and a heavier sound. It was fantastic to work with Aldo for the first time and I believe the fans are going to like the album very much!”
Apart from Romero on vocals, the band consists of Aldo Lonobile (guitars) , musician, songwriter and producer (Geoff Tate's Sweet Oblivion, Archon Angel feat. Zak Stevens, Ring Of Fire feat. Mark Boals), Andrea Arcangeli (from the Italian progressive metal band DGM) on bass, Alfonso Mocerino (ex-Temperance, Virtual Simmetry) on drums and Antonio Agate (one of the most talented Italian keyboard players and arranger for symphonic orchestras, featured in countless albums) on keyboards.
The new album kicks-off with the edgy "I'll Stand For You". This is a track that Romero's vocals really shining through! The chorus is larger than life and it's one of the highlights here. "Love's Not Gone" is a classic SUNSTORM song that features a huge harmonic line, a catchy as hell chorus line and some really tasteful guitar licks. In "Shot InThe Dark" Sunstorm covers a classic gem and in my opinion they are doin' an excellent job while in "Restless Fight" and "Running To You" we have two more great melodic hard rock gems that are featuring some great melodies, choruses and guitar riffs!! The amazingly AOR-ish "In_Out" is just a killer one and in "Take It All" we are dealin' with yet another up-beat rocker!
All in all, this is an excellent, very enjoyable and ultra melodic release from SUNSTORM!! Romero really shines through here with his high-skilled vocal abilities and the band sounds tighter than ever with some killer tunes for your ear pleasure only! Highly recommended!
