AGE OF ARTEMIS / OVERCOMING LIMITS (2011)

Age Of Artemis is a Brazilian melodic power metal/proggressive band and this is their debut album which is titled "Overcoming Limits". My first impressions of this effort are that is a well-crafted power metal release with plenty of melodies, a great guitar work and some proggressive pinches that are giving the extra something to the album's final result.

Their music is moving along the lines of Angra, Helloween and some Edguy as well. So, you got the point that these newcomers are playin' some serious music. The thing that I impressed the most is the guitar duo!  These guys are playin' their heart and soul and they are delivering some really inspired riffing and soloing in each and every single tune. The vocalist Alirio Netto has a strong and rough voice in the same time and his performances are over the top!

From the first track of the album, "Echoes Within",  Age Of Artemis delivers some ass-kickin' power metal stuff with a strong dose of melody that leaves you hungry for more. "Mystery" has a heavy riffing, brings some Helloween memories and overall it's another great example of what is this band capable of doing! The chorus line is simply stunning! Next, we find the highlight of the album, the "Take Me Home" which is a slower tune that features a huge melody, very good arrangements and a great solo! Nice work here guys! "Truth In Your Eyes" has a Edguy-ish feeling and it's one of the albums highlights while "Break Up The Chains" is one of the heavier and most aggressive tunes here. "One Last Cry" is another great track and one that features some female vocal duties and the result is brilliant! "You'll See"  could be easily be a future band classic and "God, Kings And Fools" is rawer and in some parts epic! "Till The End" which closes the album is another very good song.

Bottom line is that this is a great album all the way. It has power, melody, great arrangements and a fantastic guitar work. Maybe these guys are not offering something new and they are moving into some safier music paths but the fact that they are delivering an excellent album makes them a great hope for the future in melodic power metal. I'm really looking forward for their next step. And one last thing, if I had this album in the late 2011, it could be end up high in my Top 10 list!!!!
