Gotthard / Open (1999)

After their huge release of' "G" in 1996, the band released the live acoustic album " D-Frosted " in 1997 which was a pretty good live album. After two years Gotthard were back with their brand new album which was titled "Open", an album that personally left me with mixed feelings. In my opinion, the band followed the commercial paths that Bon Jovi had followed with big success. To be more specific, with this effort Gotthard went from the hard rockin' tunes to the more melodic rock sound. Not enough big choruses in this one, the guitar sound is not as 'heavy' as in their previous works and the whole album is a bit soft for Gotthard's standards. For sure this isn't a bad record at all. It has a very good production, a couple of very emotional ballads and some really cool hard rockin' tunes. Overall an ok album with some strong moments such as 'Vision', 'You', 'Hey Jimi' and 'Blackberry Way' but away from their first three huge releases.
