Def Leppard / Songs From The Sparkle Lounge (2008)

It's nice to see that this great band is back with a record 'back to their roots'. But first lets take things from the start. Def Leppard is one of those bands that wrote history in the music scene with capital letters. Albums such as their first two releases, which were more in the NWOBHM vain, and their huge and more succesfull later albums like "Hysteria " ,"Pyromania" and "Adrenalize", sold million of copies all over the world. It was around 1996 and the band released the 'S.L.A.N.G.' album which was an average release and far away from their unique sound. The same thing I felt about their two next releases 'Euphoria ' & 'X', average and uninspired! So in 2008 they released "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" and I have to admit that I was cautious about this one.But I was wrong, from the first line notes of this new effort you can hear that Def Leppard are determined to win their fans back!!!! The sound of this album is 100% old Def Leppard with some great tracks. The only low point here is that the album is too short. Overall this a very good release from one of my favourite hard rock bands. Well done boys! 8,5/10
