REVIEW : ALLEN / OLZON, Worlds Apart (Frontiers Music s.r.l., Release: 6 March 2020)

It seems that with this one we have the birth of a new exciting project in the vain of Allen/Lande super project. This time we have Russell Allen (Adrenaline Mob, Allen/Lande, Symphony X), the very talented Swedish songwriter/guitarist Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear, Starbreaker, Free Fall, e.t.c.) and the one and only, and my personal favorite female singer, Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish, The Dark Element).

The new album is entitled "Worlds Apart" and my advice is that if you loved the first three albums of Allen/Lande (especially the golden debut...), then look no further.

The first track that kicks-off this amazing debut is "Never Die". A powerful and heavier track that shows off what to expect here. With the second track of the album, "Worlds Apart", we have the first highlight of the new opus. Amazing melodic metal at its best with this dynamic duo to give heart and soul and Magnus Karlsson's sharp, edgy and melodic guitar lines that aims this song at a higher level. Simply breathtaking!

In "I'll Never Leave You",we are dealing with yet another monster of a song; Olzon's soulful vocals are out of this world and the heavier approach along with these fantastic melodic lines makes the final result a candy to my ears. The heavy and fast-paced tune of "Lost Soul" is really solid while in "No Sign Of Life" Allen and Olzon are delivering a more hard rocking song with a monster chorus line that you'll be singing-a-long for days. The guitar solo by Magnus is out of this world!! Excellent stuff!!

In the melodic and moodier "One More Chance", the band shows off its more modern side while with "Who You Really Are" we have another very interesting track that sounds like it jumped out from Allen/Lande's debut opus. The hook and chorus here are pure heaven!! Check out, also, the emotional and modern power-ballad of "Cold Inside".

If you love the first three albums of Allen/Lande, then mark the day of 6th March on your calendar and buy this opus. You won't regret it, believe me! If your are, aslo, a fan of the melodic metal scene in general, then ALLEN/OLZON's debut release will make your day. At this point, I have to give my credits to Mr. Magnus Karlsson; this guy is one of the biggest talents (not only as a guitarist but also as a songwriter) out there and with each release, each project, each collaboration achieves to create soulful, powerful and solid music!!!
