REVIEW : Mikael Erlandsson, The Second 1 (Pride & Joy Music Release: 24 January 2025)

The name of Mikael Erlandsson is no a stranger among the fans of the quality AOR-Melodic Rock sound. He has spanned a long career in the music business and today is a household name when it comes to quality Melodic Rock.

Erlandsson was the frontman of the super group Secret Service for 12 years singing their smash hits ”Oh Susie” and ”10 o’clock Postman“. He released also albums with Phenomena, Radioactive, Sapphire Eyes, Heartbreak Radio, Salute, Love Under Cover amongst others but is best known for his work with his own bands ”Last Autumns Dream” (14 albums) and ”Autumn’s Child” (5 albums so far). In addition to this, Erlandsson also appeared at the Eurovision Song Contest finals for Sweden, Poland, Denmark and Latvia.

"Evil Eye" kicks-off the new album in a totally classic Erlandsson style; smooth, melodic and catchy AOR stuff at its best. Next is "Call My Name" and it's about a killer one! A feel-good, up-beat melodic rock paradise that is among my personal favourites out of this new opus. The pop-rock "Paper Moon" is again an excellent track while in "Circus" we have a more 'party' Rock 'n' Roll and more anthemic song with Erlandsson's 'raspy' vocals on front row! The moodier "Bug" reminds me of Last Autumn's Dream works but with a more 'modern' twist in it and the 70's "Put Some Love In The World"  will put a wide smile upon your face!

Overall "The Second 1" is a great album all the way! A cool collection of songs that covers a wide range of rock music that at the end of the day will make you push the repeat button again and again!!
