REVIEW : TOKYO MOTOR FIST, Lions (Frontiers Music s.r.l. Release: 10 July 2020)

TOKYO MOTOR FIST is the result of the collaboration between Danger Danger's lead shouter, Ted Poley, and TRIXTER's guitarist Steve Brown. "Lions" is entitled the band's second effort that's going to be released through Frontiers Music this July.

The debut opus of Tokyo Motor Fist came like an 80's thunder and made some noise to the melodic rock world back then. An album that combined the sound of these two great bands along with a more updated 'air' and left us hungry for a new one! So, the new album is here and it's again a fantastic melodic rock gem full of anthemic hooks and choruses, a crunchy guitar work and with this late 80's vibe.

"Youngblood", the opener tune, is about everything we love from the golden era of hair metal/melodic hard rock!! Up-beat, edgy and with a killer chorus line "Youngblood" is one of the new record's tracks. Next in "Monster In Me" we have a track that sounds like Danger Danger's "Revolve" album. It features a big groove, Poley's soaring vocals in front row and a classic DD chorus line. "Around Midnight" and "Mean It" are both up-tempo, hands in the air and in-your-face that must be played both on maximum volume; just what the doctor ordered!!!

One of my personal favorites out of the new opus is without any doubt the 'darker' rocker tune of "Dream Your Heart Out". A track that is 100% Ted Poley (in Danger Danger or in his solo works...) and features a killer guitar solo! Fantastic stuff!! "Blow Your Mind" is a kinda of  the 'power ballad' of the new effort and features some powerful vocals, a huge harmonic line and great arrangements!!  In "Look Into Me" we have a more AOR-ish track while in "Winner Takes It All" (the last song...) Tokyo Motor Fist closes the new album with a thunderous and powerful melodic heavy rock song and one of the best of "Lions".

Tokyo Motor Fist with their brand new album entitled "Lions" saw their teeth and roar just like they did back then with their main bands. If you missed the sound of "classic' bands like Danger Danger, Trixter, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard, then "Lions" IS YOUR ALBUM!!!
