REVIEW : HELIX --- Old School (Perris Records , June 2019)

Legendary band of HELIX returns to music business with its brand new album entitled "Old School". The new opus is going to be released this June, through Perris Records, and it's dedicated to the memory of Paul Hackman, who played on three of these tracks and he was a co-writer to eight of the tracks.

Most of the songs in "Old School" were tracks that were kinda of 'lost' on cassettes, demo tapes or as 'rare' tunes on HELIX website. So, the idea of a new album with all these unreleased or rare tracks was a good one.

The opening tune of "Coming Back With Bigger Guns" is going to be classic among the fans of Helix. Rocking as hell with a 'tasty' chorus line, short but intense guitar riffs and those 'dirty' vocals on front row that makes you wanna push the repeat button again and again. Next in "Whiskey Bent And Hellbound" we have one of the best tunes here. Heavier, moodier and once again with this classic Helix vibe in it "Whiskey Bent And Hellbound" is a killer one.
"If Tears Could Talk" is yet another highlight out of the new album. More up-beat with a huge chorus line that grabs you and leaves you hungry for more. The more U.S. flavored and mid-tempo "Tie Me Down" is solid while in "Games Mother Never Taught You" we are dealing with a blasting up-tempo rocker that must be played loud as hell!!!

All in all, I have to say that HELIX released a really solid opus all the way. With this band you know exactly what to expect; classic hard rock stuff with killer songs, a tight musicianship and powerful performances by each member. This is an old-school music for each and every single fan of the rock music in general.

Rating : 8,5/10
