REVIEW : JOHNNY V BAND --- Love Power (2019)

JOHNNY V BAND is a rock/blues band that hailed from Thessaloniki, Greece. Former of Johnny V Band is the guitarist/composer/singer John Vatzolas who is a well-known musician in his hometown. Vatzolas has played for many years with local bands in many gigs and he, also, appeared in some TV shows.

Apart from John Vatzolas on guitars and vocals, the band consists of Perry k (Periklis Kotoulas) who helped in the songwriting and play keyboards, Nikos Vargiamidis on drums and Dimitris Yalamas on bass guitars.

The sound of "Love Power" can be described as classic rock with some strong blues/soul pinches for the extra flavor. The track that opens the new record is entitled "Save The Future". A really nice, edgy and rocking as hell old-fashioned song that grabbed my attention at once. Simple and good rock 'n' roll with attitude and I think a good song for the band's live gigs. "Velvet September" is yet another interesting track here. More in a Thin Lizzy direction and more melodic this one is among my personal favorites. The bluesier and moodier "White Rose" is just killer while in "Call Me Lover" we are dealing with the album's highlight. I think that the band loves Gary Moore and in this song the band proves it in such as great way. The guitar work, the emotional vocals and in general every little thing here is beautiful!! The up-tempo "Never Surrender" and "When The Rain" are two more solid tracks.

All in all, this is an extremely interesting work all the way. Johnny V Band is a band that plays its music with heart and soul and in an old-fashioned way that deserves to be noticed by a wider audience. For the lovers of the classic rock/hard rock scene but, also, for those who love blues rock "Love Power" is a must purchase.
