Sergeant Steel is an Aussie hard rock band that since its creation, back in 2007, has released three solid albums. It all started with the debut "Lovers & Maniacs" (2010), the strong "Men On A Mission" (2013) and my personal favorite "Riders Of The Worm" (2015). Furthermore, they produced the official anthem of Austria’s first division hockey team EHC Black Wings Linz, and a hard rock version of the Christmas classic "Winter Wonderland".
Sergeant Steel during the years have worked with some 'Giants' of the international hard rock/metal scene such as Michael Wagener (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Skid Row), Beau Hill (Ratt, Alice Cooper, Europe, Warrant, Kix, Winger,...), Peter Mew (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, David Bowie, Deep Purple,...), Mark Slaughter (Slaughter) and Kane Roberts (Alice Cooper). Not bad at all!
Nowadays, the band celebrates its 10th anniversary with a compilation of Sergeant Steel's best tunes to-date. For me, this is an excellent start for someone, who isn't familiar with the band's sound, to discover a really amazing hard rock act that brings back the sound of the late 80's, with a bit more updated sound.
"Cry Out Your Heart, Baby!" is probably one of my personal favorite tunes from Sergeant Steel!! Plenty of keys (for the AOR lovers!!!), bang-gang vocals, the necessary memorable chorus and there you have a killer track from the band's second album. In "Dirty Habits", we have a huge ala Slaughter song that could easily appear in "Stick It To Ya!" album back then. Totally love this hair metal anthem! In "Happy Time (Love On Demand)", "Chasing Love" and "Hot Widow" Sergeant Steel continues to deliver ass-kickin', powerful and with tons of attitude old-school hair metal stuff at its best!!!
The sleazy "Mama Horny" and "Young And Hungry" (which features Mark Slaughter) are both sensational melodic hard rock anthems while in "Give Me A Call" we have yet another cool and more commercial track that will please every fan of the gory 80's hard rock sound.
Bottom line is that Sergeant Steel's compilation features 11 killer, up-tempo and kick-ass hard rock diamonds that will make every single fan of melodic hard rock/Hair Metal scene extremely happy!!!! So, grab your copy in its release date and then go out and buy all three Sergeant Steel's albums!! They're all worth every single penny!!!
