"Bag Of Bones" is the brand new release from this Swedish super band. Back in the 80's, Europe was one of the hottest names in the melodic hard n' heavy scene and with albums like "The Final Countdown", "Out Of This World" and the more commercial "Prisoners In Paradise", Europe achieved to build a strong reputation around their name.
In 2004, the band cameback and released the "Start From The Dark". It was an overall good album but far away from the band's original sound. More 'dark' with heavier guitars but with Joey Tempest's voice on top form the band tried to make a brand new start. Two years after and "Secret Society" was Europe's next step. Mixed feelings once again for the die-hards 'cause of the 'modern' sound. "Last Look At Eden" was released in 2009 and it was a damn strong release! Somewhere between heavy blues and classic hard rock the album was raised by the music critics around the world as a great comeback to the band's earlier sound. Nowadays Europe are still in the music business with their new effort "Bag Of Bones".
Right from the start is more than obvious that Europe flerting with some 70's-blues hard rock sound without the 'modern' elements of both "Start From The Dark" and "Secret Society". Norum's guitar licks are inspired and the band is in top form. I only wish that the choruses here were catchier, that's my only complain here! Otherwise the final result pleased me. Highlights included the opening heavy opener "Riches To Rags", the heavy-blues "Not Supposed To Sing The Blues", the brilliant "My Woman My Friend", "Doghouse" and "Bring It All Home".
All in all this is another interesting release from Europe that will satisfy the longterm band's fans and will earn some more blusier hard rock fans as well.
