Interview with Andy Pierce of Nasty Idols !!

Attitude and kick-ass music! Two things that can describe perfectly the music of Swedish sleaze rockers  Nasty Idols.
Andy Pierce and bassist Dick Qwarfort formed the band back in 1987 and they released their debut album "Gigolos On Parole" in 1989. In 1991 they released their best album to date, in my opinion, "Cruel Intension" which was a major success! In October 1993 Nasty Idols released their third album "Vicious". A fourth album, the Fourth Reich (later changed to Heroes For Sale) was planned, but the label went bankruppt before it was released and Nasty Idols splitted in 1995. In 2009 Nasty Idols were back in business again with the brand new album which was titled "Boys Town".
Below you are going to read the interview that Andy Pierce gave to Heavy Paradise and talked about  Nasty Idols' earlier dayz, present, their up-coming album and much more! Enjoy!

heavy paradise :Hello Andy, it's really a great pleasure to have you here in Heavy Paradise for this interview!

A.P. : Thanks man.

heavy paradise :So, I read that Nasty Idols are about to release a brand new album! Do you want to tell me some things about your forthcoming effort?

A.P. : Well, it's our sixth album. After the last album"Boys Town" we just kept on writing more songs. Last time around it was me and Dick, the bassplayer who wrote most of the material. This time Peter, our guitarist has contributed with more of the material. So you will find more guitar oriented stuff and more really heavy riffs. We also recorded the vocals in different places. Some of the vocals are even recorded outdoors. We have no deadline on this album so we just take our time. We can release it tommorrow and we might as well release it next year. As long as we fell 100% sure of it's a masterpiece when it's out on the market.

heavy paradise : Last year you released a very good album, the "Boys Town". An album that received great reviews from all over the net and it was back to the roots release! How do you feel about that?

A.P. : We feel great about "Boys Town". We haden't recorded together for more than 10 years so we diden't know exactly how we sounded. We recorded the album and found out that we still sounded like before, maybe even better. It's a honest album. We didn't have to try too hard to get the sound or seek our roots, it all came naturally.

heavy paradise : Let's talk about Nasty Idols' earlier days. "Cruel Intention" is a classic sleaze metal album, at least in my book! It was released back in 1991, in the golden days of that era. After almost 21 years what do you miss about those days?

A.P. : I miss the part when it was more special to release an album. When people actually bought the real deal in a record store. When the record label gave you a big pile of money and you were shown on TV and your albums were sold...and if you were really good you became rich...It's not really like that anymore...otherwise it's all the same in terms of the sex and drugs department..ha ha...all the girls are still as young...and the drugs still comes free.
heavy paradise : Back then it was MTV, nowadays are facebook/webzines/myspace e.t.c. Do you think that now it's faster to promote music than it was 20 years ago?

A.P. : It's maybe faster but it sure is more fucking boring.

heavy paradise : What happened back then and Nasty Idols split? Was it 'cause of the 'grunge' revolution?

A.P. : The "grunge" era was all to blame for sure. People diden't wanna hear or see our kind of bands anymore. Our record label went bankrupt and we started to go in different directions. I always said that it was better to stick around and watch those "grunge" fuckers kill themselves.

heavy paradise : You guys returned with "Boys Town' to the huge 'Cruel Intention' sound! No modern elements, just pure sleaze rock n' roll! Would you write and release something just to sale to a bigger audience?

A.P. : No. not really. I mean what should I write? Songs for Beyonce? I'm best at what I do and If you like to call it sleaze rock n' roll...that's fine by me. After writing music for many years I know what I can do...and not do.

heavy paradise : From the recordings of your new album is there any funny story that you would like to share with Heavy Paradise?

A.P. : When we recorded my vocals on a song called "Nitestalking" close to a supposedly haunted house and everyone involved suddenly got scared. My vocals sounded really stressed and out of focus. We diden't keep anything from that recording except for a scream I did just before the guitar solo.

heavy paradise : Which are Andy Pierce's influences?

A.P. : I'm influenced by a lot of stuff. I could get influenced by the books I read or shit I watch on TV. When it comes down to music I think my early influences still stick: Kiss, Alice Cooper and Sex Pistols.

heavy paradise : Do you think that there is a New Wave Of Swedish Sleaze Rock? I'm asking you this 'cause there are numerous new very good bands that they are releasing some really good albums!

A.P. : When Nasty Idols got back together in 2006 there was a wave. There was 1000 new bands with big hair and tattoos. That was really good for us because people wanted to see the originals. But I get the feeling that it's on a fall back...and that is good thing too because only the good ones survive. That's why we are still around I guess...ha ha.
heavy paradise : Tell me the first thing that comes to your mind for these words

Motley Crue: When I first saw "Live Wire" on TV and dyed my hair black.
Sex: Naked Women.
Religion: Charles Manson
Lies: Girlfriends.
Friendship: Good.
MTV: The 80's
Nasty Idols: Cockroaches

heavy paradise : If you had to pick your five top albums which would that be?

A.P. : Sweet / Fanny Adams, Sex Pistols / Never Mind The Bollocks, Guns N Roses / Appetite For Destruction, Beatles / The White Album, Rolling Stones / Exile On Mainstreet

heavy paradise : Which is Nasty Idols' best album to date and which album you wouldn't release, if you had the chance?

A.P. : I think "Boys Town" is the best and our first album "Gigolos On Parole" shouldent be released ever.

heavy paradise : Any plans for touring in 2011? Is there any chance to see Nasty Idols in Greece?

A.P.:  We sure hope so. It all depends on the release of the new album. We sure wanna go to Greece. We've been there before and we sure like it there.

heavy paradise : Any message to your fans?

A.P.: As always keep up the bad attitude!

heavy paradise : Thanx a lot Andy for this interview. I wish you all the best for the future!

A.P. : Thanks a lot man!
