James LaBrie / Static Impulse (2010)

James LaBrie is well known as the lead singer of prog. 'masters' Dream Theater. His first solo album, "Elements Of Persuasion", was released back in 2005 and it was a decent one. I really like LaBrie's voice. But during his Dream Theater carrer, Labrie's voice has consistently attracted criticism about his vocal abilities!

So, now his back with his brand new effort which is titled "Static Impulse". One thing is sure here, James LaBrie's voice is sounding better than ever! In this twelve track album you will hear some very good heavy proggressive tracks with plenty of melodies and nice arrangements. But the strongest point here are the compositions!

Highlights from this album are the fantastic tune of 'One More Time", "Jekyll Or Hyde", "This Is War" and the ballad closer "Coming Home".

All in all this is a good album. Much better than his first solo and indeed better than Dream Theater's last albums. There are some very good tracks but, in my opinion, it lacks of some more standout ones.
