Iron Maiden / The Final Frontier (2010)

After the very good album from the 'madman' of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne, it's time for another one legendary metal band. This is Iron Maiden's new album and it's titled : "The Final Frontier". I really don't know if this album will be their last one but for sure Iron Maiden, love them or hate 'em, wrote their name with big letters in this kinda of music. Since their inception, the group have released a collective total of thirty-one albums: fifteen studio albums; seven live albums; four EPs; and five compilations.
So, what we have here is a pretty good album and a very good mix of Maiden's glory dayz with some elements of their recent years. I also have to say that I never was a huge fan of Iron Maiden, but I can tell you that albums like " Powerslave", "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", "The Number of the Beast" and "Fear of the Dark" are all classics in my book.
After a lot of listenings and some reviews reading (blogs, sites, e.t.c.) my thoughts are finally clear. I really like this album. Maybe for the die hards of the band this album will not be a future classic, but for me and also for some new comers this is a very interesting album. Ok, this one is not a Number of the Beast No2 or a second Powerslave, but for sure is another one very good Iron Maiden album. They have changed and matured musically. I'm happy that Maiden's are a bit more progressive than other Maiden CD's and Bruce's vocals are on top form (as always). "Mother of Mercy" and the classic "The Alchemist" are the two highlights here for me. The rest of the tracks are from good to very good. The last tune of the album, "When the wild wind blows", is an 11 minute long 'monster' track. It has everything that a Maiden fan could ask for. Man, what a track...
All in all this is a very good album from one of the biggest names in Heavy Metal. A big must have for the fans of this band that are open minded :-)
