REVIEW : ROUGH ROCKERS ---- SMOKE & MIRRORS (RVPrecords, 2019)

Rough Rockers is a band that started as a solo project of vocalist/bassist Peter Ljungberg and guitarist Magnus Hällström. The missing pieces of the puzzle were completed with the addition of Australian guitarist Joe Matera and Swedish drummer Roger Eriksson in 2018.

With the line-up completed, Rough Rockers achieved to get a good deal with Dutch record label RVPrecords in late 2018. Joe Matera says about Rough Rockers : "I’m looking forward to rocking out with the band” says Matera, “and bringing our unique brand of guitar driven rock to audiences across Europe” and singer Ljungberg adds : “I`m so pleased with the way we have put the songs together. We’ve captured the energy of the band in the essence of the songs, and have created a powerful sound of solid catchy rock `n` roll”.

This new EP also features a special appearance by legendary singer Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz, Michael Schenker Group) who guests on lead vocals on the track, “Unleash The Beast”.

The sound of Rough Rockers can be described as classic 80's, with a strong late 70's reference, hard rock stuff. The dynamic guitar duo of  Hällström and Matera is delivering some excellent riffs and solos and the strong performances by Ljungberg give to the final result an extra 'push' to make the final result even more attractive.

The solid opener tune of "No More Heroes", the Deep Purple-esque "Murder At Midnight", the classic and very 70's ballad "Rebel At Heart" and of course the classic and more 'metal' of "Unleash The Beast" (feat. Graham Bonnet) are all very good samples.

If you love the classic hard rock/metal scene of mid 80's, late 70's, and bands such as Deep Purple, Rainbow and DIO, then check out these guys. A really strong work that will be appreciated by any classic hard rocker out there.
