This is for sure a very interesting release. Captain Black Beard is a new hard rock act and they are hailing from Sweden. This is the band's debut album and they are ready to rock our world with their high class and up-tempo melodic rock. Captain Black Beard made its live debut on October 2009 and since then they've been playing in most of the clubs in Stockholm, Sweden. Having the help of the well-known producer David Castillo (Opeth, Katatonia) and some ass-kickin' tracks Captain Black Beard's debut is out and ready to rock!
The album starts off with "Hey Man". An anthemic hard hittin' track with a catchy chorus line and some very good guitar riffing. "Don't Turn Your Back On Love" comes next and the thing is gettin better and better! Up-tempo rhythm and a riffing that grabs you from the start and leaves you hungry for more! One of my personal favourite tunes from this album! "Rock Is My Life" is, probably, the most commercial tune here. Nice mid-tempo rhythm which gettin' a bit harder on the chorus. The boys are living their American dream with the next song. "American Dream" is a totally 80's influenced track, radio-friendly, with a huge chorus, brilliant harmonies and a very good solo! "Concrete Jungle" is ok while "Ex-Convict" features heavier guitars and Sakaria Bjorklund's passionate performances.
"No Worries" is another perfect example of high energetic modern rock stuff with loud guitars and in-your-face vocal lines! "Summer Nights" is an acoustic rocker and "True Love" is the highlight from this debut ! Pure melodic hard rock bliss with a superb melody and a killer chorus! "Rock Bottom" has a moodier feeling and a more 'modern' sound than the above mentioned tracks. It's not bad at all, I dare to say that is one of the most interesting songs out of here! The track that closes the album is "Rockin' Body". A solid hard rocker with a sleazy touch!
Overall, this is an extremely interesting release! Captain Black Beard promises to rock you with their high energy melodic hard rock. They achieve to combine all the magic from the 80's served with a more 'freasher' and sometimes modern way and I can assure you that the final result will please you! They have the attitude, they have the songs and they have the heart to play some decent Rock N' Roll stuff. I think that in the near future we are going to hear some bigger things from those guys! Well done.
