REVIEW : Hit The Ground Runnin’ , Control Yourself (Release: 19.05.2023, Pride & Joy Music)

The album "Control Yourself" was originally recorded back and in between 1990-1991 as the intended follow-up release to Hit The Ground Runnin's debut album "Sudden Impact". The band at this time was offered opportunities in TV/Film and the song "Back Again" was written and submitted to production for the movie Rocky V, and also "Surrounded By Fire" for the movie Backdraft.

Due to the musicl changes and trends back then, the album never saw the light of day. But in 2001 "Control Yourself" was released through Smash Records. The original pressing has been a hard to find collectors item in the AOR music scene and fans have been asking for a much awaited re-release.

Nowadays, the album finally will be re-released though Pride & Joy music with a new artwork and three additional bonus tracks; one previously unreleased song "Melva Devine", a demo of Back Again with original guitarist Alan Augunas and an alternative demo version of the song Pain.

"Control Yourself" is a solid record and the sure thing is that will 'travel you' back in the late 80's, early 90's. It features an edgy guitar work with some inspired solos, sweet melodies, tasteful harmonies and, in general, is an album that will attract each and every single fan of the edgy AOR/Melodic Rock sound. Highlights out of this opus are "Still Life Lover", "Born To Be With You", "Holdin On", the sleazier "Dirty Girl" and a couple of heavier tunes such as "Control Yourself" and "Surrounded By Fire".

For those who were searchin' this little gem for years, this is your chance to grab it and add this to your collection. Highly recommnended stuff!
