REVIEW : Cats In Space --- Daytrip To Narnia (Harmony Factory / Cargo Records UK Release: 1 March 2019)

The new kings of pomp rock? If you ask me I would dare to say that yes they are!!! With Cats In Space things are simple; it's a band that with each release you know exactly what to expect. Pure and high quality pomp/melodic rock with a strong theatrical approach and the QUEEN 'ghost' to haunt every single moment!

With already two albums on their sleeves, the solid debut and the really amazing "Scarecrow" back in 2017, Cats In Space are back in business with opus number three. After a couple of spins of this brand new one, I have to say that this is without any doubt the band's best record to-date. I think that despite the strong QUEEN influences (there are in all of their albums), the band achieves to put its own identity in "Daytrip To Narnia" and at the end to create an amazingly interesting effort that the sure thing is that will gain a wider audience (I think that they deserve it...).

Listening to Cats In Space is a really music journey; from power pop rock songs to classic pomp rock stuff this band shows its skills to write and perform good music. Add to the above mentioned a more theatrical (imagine Supertramp at their best) approach and there you have the Cats In Space sound. Of course there are some excellent guitar lines, superb performances plus a modern melodic rock vibe and the result is called "Daytrip To Narnia".

"Daytrip To Narnia" has two sides (imagine a long play vinyl record). The first side includes the pomp rocker and very Queen-esque "She Talks Too Much", the up-tempo popish "Hologram Man" (a true highlight here), the theatrical "Tragic Alter Ego" and the classic 70's "Unicorn". Especially the last one could easily appear in any of Supertramp's albums. Top class stuff! The second side features a song that is called "The Story Of Johnny Rocket". This is a concept track that divided into six songs!!! This is by far a superb ride into Cats In Space music world; an incredible music ride that will leave you breathless. A variety of rock, and not only, music that will please every music fan in general.

Look what the cat dragged in!!! "Daytrip To Narnia" is Cats In Space's best album to-date, period! A fantastic, well-consisted and enjoyable opus, from start to finish, that is a must have for every music lover out there. It doesn't matter if you are into melodic rock or metal or pop or any music label; this is music ladies and gentlemen.

Rating : 10/10
