The legendary BOSTON are returning with a brand new studio album after a 10+ year hiatus from releasing new material. Centered around the incredibly gifted guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, and producer Tom Scholz, “Life, Hope and Love” is a reflection on how certain traumatic events can impact people’s lives.
The new songs bring an uplifting message delivered around the classic guitar and vocal harmonies of Boston’s classic sound, which are a true trademark of the band. Vocalists on the album include Brad Delp, Kimberley Dahme, David Victor, Tommy DeCarlo and Tom Scholz himself.
Of the album, Tom Scholz said, “These are all songs from the heart, each of them taking many months of effort to write, arrange, perform and record, always up to the demands of BOSTON's harshest critic, me. They have all been meticulously recorded to analogue tape on the same machines and equipment used for BOSTON's hits for the past 35 years.”
The album starts with the brilliant and 'classic' tune of "Heaven And Earth", a song that could easily fit in any of this legendary band's earlier releases. The vocals, the harmonies and the arrangements are all perfectly balanced in this AOR gem! Next, we find another highlight and, of course, another future classic in the band's catalog; the "More Than A Feeling"-esque "Didn't Mean To Fall In Love" is simply brilliant!! "Last Day Of School" is a very nice instrumental cut while in "Sail Away" we have a very good power ballad. "Life, Love & Hope" continues in the same classic Boston paths, the pop-rockier "If You Were In Love" includes some really amazing performances by Kimberly Dahme and "Someday" is a cool up-tempo rocker! Tom Scholz takes over the lead vocals and delivers a really impressive rock track in "Love Got Away" that features also a very good guitar work. "Someone" is among my personal favorites from this new album with its 80's vibe, great harmony and strong orchestrations. The last two tracks, "You Gave Up On Love" & "The Way You Look Tonight", are both great samples of a great band!!
Bottom line is that another legendary back is back with a solid record in the vain of its glory days! Yes, Boston achieve to deliver an album similar to their classic earlier recordings and the sure thing is that their fans will love it as much as I enjoyed it!
