Serenity Broken is a Greek heavy rock band with some grunge/alternative elements as well and they were formed back in 2010. But let's see a small bio of the band's 'who is who'. A grown-up singer with a lot of underground Brit scene influences, a fashion addicted raised with some pop culture backround, two gain freaks with an extreme music backround and a motor crosser bassist and Serenity Broken was born!!
They played to several gigs in Athens with the most important their participation with Rotting Christ in D-Festival in Agrinio (Gr.). All these live gigs made them more mature and the next physical step was to get in the studio for recording. Without wasting any time, the band started to record their first album 'Commercial Suicide'. For the mastering and mixing of 'Commercial Suicide' they hired the 'mighty' Ahti Kortelainen (Sonata Arctica) who gave a more dynamic and fresh sound to the album's final result.
The album kicks off with "Tattooed Heart", a track that reminds me of Pearl Jam's earlier work. It has a nice groove and some really nice guitar parts. "Shadows Heart" is another excellent example of a tight as hell band!! It's a more technical song and the influences from bands such as Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam are more than obvious! And, even though I'm not a fan of alternative heavy rock scene, I've to admit that I like what I'm hearing here!! In "Alone", we have a dark modern and aggressive track, without loosing the melody, that grabs you with its melacholic rhythm. Other highlights here are the "Right In Me", "Def" and the heavier "Deception"!
All in all, this is a solid release. The band has plenty of talent and that is a thing that you can hear it in every single track of this album! The vocal performances are top notch and the guitar work is another strong point of Serenity Broken. The production is tight and the artwork is a piece of art!! Well done guys!
