ELECTRIC BOYS / AND THEM BOYS DONE SWANG (2011)

Electric Boys were formed as a duo in 1988 in Stockholm, Sweden by Conny Bloom (guitar and vocals) and Andy Christell (bass) and got a hit song right away with the track "All Lips N' Hips" after which the members Franco Santunione (guitar) and Niclas Sigevall (drums) were recruited. Their sound was a mix of groove, Beatles-phsychedelia and heavy guitar riffs. In 1989, they released their critically aclaimed debut "Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride". In 1992, the follow-up album "Groovus Maximus" was released. The album was recorded in the legendary “Beatles studio” Abbey Road in London and the band continued touring mainly in the U.S.A., Great Britain and Sweden. In 1994, the album "Freewheelin’' was released and the members decided to dissolve the band soon after with a farewell concert in their hometown Stockholm.

So, nowadays, Electric Boys is back in business with their brand new release with the title "And Them Boys Done Swang". I love their first two albums! I think that both albums are a fine example of pure funky hard rock with great guitar work, passionate performances and a tight musicianship. With all these comebacks over the last couple of years the time for Electric Boys has finally arrived. The fact is that I have this album in my hands since its release, which means that I had the time to listen to it over and over again. I like this new Electric Boys album a lot. And let's face it; this isn't a 'new' "Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride", that was then and this is now. The boys are back more mature than ever without loosing any of the passion of their hey days. The funky elements are still here, the great songwritting is also here and the spirit of the 70's-80's hard rock is here, also, alive and kickin'. The voice of Conny Bloom sounds stronger than ever and the whole album drags you into an endless Rock N' Roll party.

All in all, this is a very interesting release from a great band. Maybe not a future 'classic' but for sure this release will rock your world with its passion and the great performances.
