RETRO REVIEW : ROULETTE ---Better Late Than Never (YesterRock , 2011)

The story of Swedish melodic rock band of ROULETTE starts back in 1985 and to be more specific in Sundsvall, Sweden. There were five young guys, all experienced with other bands, that were chasing their dreams who started to rehearse songs and played live at rock clubs and festivals around Sweden. Soon enough they gained popularity and became fast one of the hottest names in the local scene.

They signed a record deal with TAB Records and released their first single ”Hearts Keep On Burning” with Tommy Nilsson on backing vocals. The second single was released in 1988, called ”Fool For Your Love” and a video was made to promote the song. During that time the band performed in many TV shows, gigs and also played live with big names such as Treat, Guardian Angels, Electric Boys and Lions Share.

In 1990, they changed their name to Cherry Red and signed a record deal with CBS Records. They started to record songs for their debut but unfortunately things didn't go as they planed and only a song saw the light of day, ”Only The Strong”. Back in 2008, Roulette signed a record deal with AOR-FM and released an album with singles/demos and unreleased material entitled "Better Late Than Never". The opus was sold-out and became a major success in the melodic rock world. In 2010, the record label YesterRock released their version of ”Better Late Than Never”, with two new demo songs.

So, what we have here is an album full of big melodies, groove, harmonies to die for, hooks n' choruses to sing-a-long and, in general, a big Scandi melodic rock sound that will make each an every single fan of this scene extremely proud! Somewhere between The Treat, Bad Habit, Talk Of The Town and Def Leppard ROULETTE's "Better Late Than Never" is a must have for everyone out there! "Only The Strong", "Run Girl", "Hearts Keep On Burning", "City Heat", "Call My Name" and "Dancin'" are some of the gems that you'll gonna find here. A classic record, period!

Rating : 10/10
