REVIEW : PAIN CITY --- KEEP IT REAL (2019)

Pain City is a Norwegian heavy rock band and this year is about to release its brand new opus, the second one, with the title "Keep It Real". The band's debut, "When Life Hits You", saw the light of day the last year. Right away after the release of the debut, Pain City started to play live but, also, started the recordings of new music.

Stian Krogh (he was in The Carburetors ) the band's lead singer/songwritter and guitarist says about the new album : "The album “Keep it real” has “one extra” compared to the debut album. The goal on the new album was to create something a little bit different, but still make it sound easy and unique. “Keep it real” has some very powerful songs in the metal department, but also some very catchy rock and roll tunes."

I will agree with Krogh!! This record is really a great mix of rockers and some more metal tunes and it includes heavy guitars, powerful and in-your-face vocals, catchy hooks and a Metallica-esque vibe in all over the album. Pretty interesting don't you think?

The opener tune of "Alive And Free" is exactly what I've described above; a heavy rockin' song with a strong Metallica 'air' in it, a powerful sound and some really great guitars enough to make you wanna bang your head. In "I Shout It Out Loud", we have yet another strong moment out of this record. More straight forward hard rock this time with a 'clever' riffing and a more commercial approach that makes this track one of the best out of "Keep It Real". The heavier "Do Or Die", the NWOBHM-esque "Today I Ain't Myself" and the catchier (with the huge guitar solo...) "Cannonball On Fire" are three more solid tunes that I liked a lot.

"Keep It Real" is a pretty interesting and solid album all the way by these Norwegian hard rockers. I would dare to say that this opus includes some strong Metallica (Load and Reload) 'pinches' here and there but, also, features a bunch of some killer n' powerful songs that will please a variety of the rock fans out there. My advice is to go and check these guys out.

Rating : 7,5/10
