REVIEW : AMANDA SOMERVILLE'S TRILLIUM --- Tectonic (Frontiers Music s.r.l., June 2018)

Amanda Somerville is one of the hottest names among the world Melodic Metal scene, no doubt 'bout that. She is an excellent singer, songwriter and has collaborated with many bands/projects in her career. Avantasia, Epica, Kamelot, and After Forever are some of the big names that Amanda was involved in through the years.
The melodic metal band of Trillium made its appearance back in 2011 with the amazing debut of "Alloy", an album that was released trough Frontiers Music. Nowadays, Amanda Somerville and Trillium are back together for a brand new opus, again through Frontiers Music s.r.l., with the title "Tectonic".

"Tectonic" kicks-off impressively with one of the new album's highlights; "Time To Shine" really shines here. Melodic metal at its best with Somerville's superb vocal lines, powerful arrangements, a killer guitar solo and a chorus line to die for. I just love this track! "Stand Up" is yet another brilliant sample from the new record. Up-tempo and melodic to the bone "Stand Up" is what I call hi-tech Melodic Symphonic Metal stuff. "Full Speed Ahead" is edgier, darker and kinda more modern. Bigger groove regarding the guitar work here but again this is extremely interesting.

The melodic gem of "Hit Me" is my personal favorite out of this new album! Damn, this track is just fabulous! Melodic as it gets with Amanda's superb vocal lines in front row, a heavenly influenced harmony and some, almost, progressive 'pinches' in it "Hit Me" is killer!! Other highlights out of "Tectonic" are the 'beautiful' "Fatal Mistake" (just listen to Amanda's powerful vocals...),  "Fighting Fate" and "Shards".

Bottom line is that "Tectonic" is a terrific opus all the way. And, even if there are numerous of bands that sound the same, "Tectonic" stands out for its quality, power and melody. In my humble opinion, "Tectonic" is one of Amanda Somerville's best work to-date! This woman's voice is heaven in my ears.
