REVIEW : SAILING TO NOWHERE / To The Unknown (2015)

Sailing To Nowhere is an Italian melodic power metal band founded in 2013 by a group of young musicians with different musical influences, raging from melodic power metal to heavy rock, and a strong desire to mix heavy guitars with a strong emphasis on melodies and a more atmospheric sound.

After having signed a deal with Bakerteam Records, the band entered Kick Recording Studio in Rome, Italy, to record their debut album, 'To The Unknown', with Matteo Gabbianelli (Kutso) and Marco Cinghio Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance), with very special guest appearances by Terence Holler (Eldritch), Leonardo Porcheddu ( Kuprij, Macaluso), David Folchitto (Prophilax, StormLord) and Valentina De Iuliis (Ex-Belladonna).

The sound here is basically power metal that includes heavy guitars, beautiful melodies, powerful (MARCO PALAZZI) and, at the same time, emotional (VERONICA BULTRINI) vocals thanks to the strong vocal duties of both singers, a tight musicianship and a solid production. "Big Fire" is the best sample of Sailing To Nowhere's music. It features all the above mentioned things in a song and it's among my favorite tracks from this debut. "Fallen Angel" is 'darker', more atmospheric with a haunting melody and it contains a really interesting soloing. Another highlight out of "To The Unknown" is without any doubt the mid-tempo, almost epic, "Strange Dimension". The first video-single out of the debut is "Sailing To Nowhere" which is yet another killer tune! This is a more straight-forward and in-your-face rocker, catchy with a melody that sticks in your mind! The band, also, tries and achieves to cover successfully Anastacia's 'Left Outside Alone'.

Really interesting release from these Italian youngsters! Melodic power metal stuff filled with the necessary melodies, strong performances and very good guitar work that achieves to leave a sweet taste in your ears.
