FARCRY / HIGH GEAR (2009)

This is a very interesting album! Well-played with catchy songs, some bluesier touches but, most of all, great guitar work! Firstly, I have to say that FARCRY is a new band and not the Farcry that have released two albums in the early 90's. FARCRY is a U.S. hard rock band which consists of Mark Giovi on lead vocals, Pete Fry on guitars, John Leonardis on bass and Chris Ryan on drums.

The fact is that FARCRY are playin' a great mix of pure hard rock of the glory 80's, early 90's, with a fresh air! No modern elements here just pure melodic hard rock stuff with attitude! The strong point of the band is for sure the guitar work of Pete Fry! This guy has such a feeling when he is playin' the six-string! For me the basic thing in a guitarist is to put out 'feeling' when he is playin'. And Pete Fry has exactly this thing! Mark Giovi's vocal lines are overall good and he is delivering some really strong and passionate performances even if in some parts his voice cannot 'follow' the band's sound concerning some higher notes! The rhythm section is solid and the final result will please most of the melodic rock fans out there and especially those who digg bands such as Firehouse, earlier Bon Jovi but, also, some Def Leppard fans as well.

Bottom line is that FARCRY is a very good band and with their "High Gear" album they are showing that they can achieve great things in the near future! Well done!

  1. A lot of good memories, that's what represents "High Gear" :) I purchased in 2009 the opus "High Gear" in FARCRY's store. I was glad to hear this fantastic Melodic Modern Rock ! Some weeks later, I received a poster from the band ... The fact is that I never purchased poster, just the album ! It was a present from Mr. Pete Fry :)
