MY REFUGE / Living In Anger (EP, 2013)

MY REFUGE is a band that was formed in 2010 in Milan, Italy, and that same year saw its debut EP-record "3407 Picture Of An August Night". Next, in 2012, and after a line-up change My Refuge started performing live and recording new material.

In 2013, the band released its second step, a new EP, which was entitled "Living In Anger". The band consists of Moz on lead vocals, Mauro Paietta and Simone Dettore on guitars, Salvatore Chimenti on bass and Valerio Ferrari on drums.

Their music, as I already mentioned, is based on the Euro epic power metal scene with a strong dose of progressive metal but some modern heavier elements as well. "The Storm Is Coming" is the opening tune of this 4-track EP and it's an awesome sample of My Refuge's music. Simple, heavy with a very nice melody, good guitar work, a tight musicianship and very good arrangements. In my humble opinion, the vocals here need more work but the final result of this song is solid! "The Cage (Oh Demon In My Eyes)" has  classic metal vibe and includes a really superb guitar solo! "Living In Anger" is heavier with again strong arrangements and the tune that closes this record is an acoustic track, "Empty Rooms", which is very nice!

All in all, this is a really solid sample of My Refuge's music. Passionate, with very good arrangements, strong performances, some good ideas regarding of the guitar lines and, most of all, well-written songs. I'm waiting of the band's full-length album!!!
Heavy Paradise's Rating : 7,5/10
