SHANNON / CIRCUS OF LOST SOULS (2013)

Shannon was founded in early 1998 by Patrice Louis (guitar) and Thierry Dagnicourt (keys) in order to play their catchy melodic hard rock, be able to make the extra step and establish themselves in this difficult and highly competitive scene! The band then consisted of (ex-Jannylee) Olivier Del Valle on lead vocals, Claude Thill (ex-Der Kaiser) and Maxence Pilo (ex-Heavenly) on drums.

Their debut was released in November 2003 and managed to gather positive reviews from the international press as one of the most impressive albums of that year in the U.S., since, on one hand, they combined the classic sound of the early 80's scene with catchy choruses, dynamic guitars and a groovy rhythm section and, on the other hand, they had elements from today's European melodic scene. They then followed several changes in their line-up until they successfully reached 2007 and the release of «World Of Desire», one 5-track EP demo. The band played in various festivals to present the new songs and they were selected to play as the opening-act for Gotthard at the Festival Raismes. The ''Angel In Disguise" was released in 2007, the second full-length album of the band, and it was more powerful and promising than their debut.

So, nowadays, we have in our hands their brand new album which is entitled «Circus Of Lost Souls». For their new essay, Shannon recruited some big names of today's scene as guests, such as: Harry Hess (Harem Scarem) and Tony Mills (TNT) among others. Really the guys from Shannon won me from the first listen! The combination of the party hair metal of the 80's combined perfectly with a fresher approach makes this album quite interesting! The powerful and melodic guitars are in the front-line and the powerful performances of the singer are the band's strongest point!! The compositions are simple but extremely catchy and, the band is overall tight. Some ballads are needed for the necessary balance between the harder edged songs and generally everything flows nicely here and there is no filler in sight!

Overall, this is a very good album all the way! Some catchy and very enjoyable songs, the necessary attitude, a tight musicianship and a solid production are the ingredients of "Circus Of Lost Souls". Recommended!!!!
