GOTTHARD / FIREBIRTH (2012)

Gotthard is one of the finest European melodic hard rock bands ever, there's no doubt about that. They have released some really great albums and their songs stood through the test of time. With each and every release from these guys, you know what to expect; up-tempo songs, melodic lines and choruses to die for and some emotional ballads!



I had the privilege to see this band live and the 'images' from that gig will be unforgetable. Steve Lee, who passed away suddenly, was a great performer and his voice will live forever in our hearts. So, after this tragic loss the rest of Gotthard's members took the desicion that life goes on and they wanted to continue the Gotthard legacy. Nick Maeder was the band's new frontman and the band rise-up through its ashes. I have to admit that this was a difficult decision, considering of Steve Lee was a charismatic singer and person.

When I first heard the first singel from this new album, "Remeber It's Me", I was blown away! This is a very good melodic rock tune in the vain of the band's latest releases and Nick Maeder is doin' an excellent job in the vocals! This is a song that is a trademark Gotthard. "Starlight" is the album's new single and it's a hell of a song. A mid-tempo rocker featuring some acoustic guitars and attitude! "Yippie Aye Yay" is one my personal favourite tunes from the new album with its up-tempo rhythm and the great guitar work! "Tell Me" is a typical Gotthard ballad with great lyrics and a sensational melody line. It's all about love and relationships! Huge song!! "Give Me Real" it's an in-your-face rocker that reminds the band's earlier works. Maeder's vocal performances shines here.

Overall this is a great album all the way. The fact is that I was a bit suspicious 'bout this album. After the first listening everything is clear in my head!! The sound that we love from this band is here!!! The solid songwritting is also here. Nick Maeder is the ideal substitute as the band's lead shouter and the spirit of the great Steve Lee souround the whole album. If he can see from heaven he must be proud about his friends. Great work guys!!!
