TNT / Transistor (1999)

As you all have figured out by now I' m a big fan of TNT's music! But with this release (and 'Firefly') my feelings are mixed up. First of all I have to say that "Transistor" isn't a bad record, but for sure isn't a classic one like their previous masterpieces. The truth is somewhere in the middle. There are some songs here that rocks big time, some average (for TNT standarts) and a couple of boring tunes, in my opinion. With this release, the band experiments a bit and the final result mixed-up their old fans. The album starts with "Just Like God", a heavier tune, and someone can easily understand the band's new music direction. A good enough track but nothin' breathtakin'. In "Wide Awake" the influences from their previous effort, 'Firefly', are obvious. An average one. It's time for the best track of the album, so far, "No Such Thing " and this time it's a rockier tune and a track that brings some memories of TNT's earlier works. "Crashing down" is another one good track with a modern vibe in it. "Fantasia Espanola " is an emotional ballad with a huge melody. "Because I Love You" is a strong track and one of my favourites of this album. "The Whole You're Inn" and "Mousetrap " are both killers with nice melodies and catchy choruses, probably the two highlights of "Transistor". "Into Pieces" & " Under My Pillow" are average and the album closes with the aggressive and heavy "No Guarantees" which is another killer track.
All in all this is a very interesting release from TNT. For sure it's not their best but neither their worst, it has it's moments.
