REVIEW : VITNE, ARIA (2019)

The name of VITNE is one of Heavy Paradise's favorite artists through the years. This Norwegian artist is very energetic in this scene since 2013. His albums have been nominated for various awards, his songs have been included in video games (most notably Drums Hero, a virtual reality drum simulator game), and has been used in film and TV. VITNE‘s music is unique within the melodic hard rock realm due to his addition and performance of the flute on many songs.

Nowadays, the artist has released a new solo opus with the title "Aria". ARIA was written, musically and lyrically, to feel like the adventure of a Japanese-style RPG (like games such as Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger). It revolves around its own unique story, told through the eyes of the primary protagonist in a way like a journal during his adventures in a foreign world. Together with three companions, they struggle to ensure a future for a world long forgotten.

"Aria" includes eleven tracks and for those who are into VITNE's music there are plenty melodies, beautiful symphonic parts and the well-known 'mysterious' Vitne mood enough to make you love this one at first listening.

The guitar parts, except VITNE, are handled by the amazing and very talented axeman Julian Angel and that's another strong point of the new record. The first highlight comes with the very late 80's hard rock gem of "Turn Back Time" that features a huge guitar work along with a more classic hard rock feeling. The modern-electronic "Encephalon"  (with again a monster guitar riff in it) and the totally Porcupine Tree-esque "Fever Dream" are two more extremely interesting tracks here. The beautiful and moodier (with the classic flute in it..) "Horizon" is 100% VITNE while in "Vanquish The Night" we are dealing with yet another killer track out of the new album. I just love the chorus line here.

VITNE is back with yet another very interesting album that for those who are already fans of his music the sure thing is that will love it at once. For those who aren't familiar with Vitne's music, I suggest that you check it out asap; you'll discover a great artist and most of all beautiful music.
