BLACK SEED / MOVING ON (EP) (2012)

Black Seed is a new band that consists of Riccardo Favara on lead vocals, Aurelio Maggi on guitars, Simon Esposito on bass and they were all band-mates in the alternative metal act of "Broken Valves". The band is, also, supplemented by Daniele Zimmardi on drums.

I would describe the band's sound as a mix of the modern rock/metal scene with some alternative as well as some southern pinches. The guitar sound is 'clear' an' punchy with some 'clever' riffs and solos and the vocal performances are powerful. The rhythm section is tight and the four songs that are included here in this debut EP are all well-written, well-performed and show the talent of this band. The opening tune of "Reason" is a great sample of Black Seed's music. Modern heavy rock at its best with a cool guitar riff and a catchy chorus line. "Distance" has a 'moody' melody and a more atmospheric sound and it's the highlight from this EP!! "Take Me Down" features a nice groove while the last song "Moving On" brought me memories from the U.S. alternative scene of the 90's.

All in all, this is a very interesting release all the way. I have to admit that I enjoyed this debut EP a lot. All I have to add is that I'm waitin' for their next step. Well done!!!
