OFFTOPIC / IMPACTO (2011)

OFFTOPIC is a female fronted Spanish Heavy Rock band. "Impacto" is the band's new album and it's about a well-crafted album full of heavy in-your-face guitars, very good songs, melodies and great performances! Their latest work was the EP "Backstage" and I have to say that I really enjoyed it a lot. It contained some very good songs with nice arrangements and Rosa Ibáñez's passionate vocal performances. They sang in their mother language but that's not a problem at all, at least not for me!

They are not the typical heavy band! They achieve to mix perfectly the heavy metal sound with some prog elements but some groovier elements as well! In their EP, I was impressed by the guitar work! And yes, the same feeling I, also, have now. The guitar player, Toni Sánchez-Gil,  smokes here! Except the heavy riffing, this guy can deliver some really incredible soloing. The other strong point of the band is the vocal duties by Rosa! These two things plus a tight musicianship and there you have "IMPACTO". Highlights from the album are the hard hittin' opening tune of "Cuarto Sello", the huge "Pierde El Control" with it's amazing solo, the beautiful ballad "Abrazame", the darker tune of  "20 Anos", which is one of my favourite, and the rhythmic "Mas".

All in all, this is an extremely interesting release! It's heavy, dark, melodic, proggy and in some parts moves into some modern rock paths! The production is overall solid and the guitar work is the band's strongest point, imho! I recommend this album to the open minded people who want to hear a quality heavy band that sang in Spanish! Well done!
