This was the final chapter in Shotgun Messiah's short discography. A band that had it all back then. Lots of attitude, ass-kickin' performances, solid rhythm section, great tracks and a really big in-your-face sound! With their first release the boys showed us a more party-glam image but with some heavy riffing and some cool tunes. Their second one, "Second Coming", was in my opinion one of the best hard-sleaze releases back then! Heavier but still melodic without a filler! A classic in my book.
With "Violent New Breed", Shotgun Messiah turned to some not radio-friendly sound. Yes, this album has nothin' to do with the band's earlier recordings. Heavy as hell sound, angry and more aggressive than ever, industrial at moments but with the Shotgun Messiah's elements still remaining! I think that you got the point of how this album sounds! The big choruses that stick in your mind for days are also here, maybe without so much sound effects should sounded better, and the hair-sleaze elements of the past are long gone. Back then I was so confused about this album. And let's face it, a band that has released an album like "Second Coming" the less you expect is an album in the same standarts. After all these years "Violent New Breed" is still in my cd player and I'm really enjoying every time that I'm listening it! Songs like I'm a Gun, Monkey Needs, Violent New Breed and Jihad are fine examples of a band that even without the hair metal image, that I like, can play some music!
