THE SLAM is a new hard rock band and was originally founded by Canadian raised lead singer and guitarist Serge Simic. The Slam combines inspired guitar riffs and solos, driving grooves and catchy melodies in the likes of Seventies hard rock giants such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, Boston, Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. 'Hit It' is the band's debut album and was mixed in Los Angeles by renowned producer Fabrizio Grossi (Steve Vai, Alice Cooper), who recognized and captured the essence of that positive, highly energetic rock'n'roll The Slam is unleashing.
So, as you read above the thing that you are going to hear in "Hit It" is pure hard rock with an 70's groove but, also, some newer elements as well! And when I say new elements, I don't mean 'modern', no way! They , also, have some 80's elements with big and catchy choruses, loud guitars and an overall solid production. The lead singer Serge Simic has a rough and strong voice and his performances are top notch! The songs are all well-crafted with nice arrangements and, most of all, they have an up-tempo vibe and a party feeling! "Wild Ride" kicks off the things here and what a great way to start the album! A 'dirty' rocker with a nice chorus line and one of my personal favourites from this release. "Little Angel" has a nice groove in it and features the mighty Glenn Hughes as a guest. "Bad Blood" has a 'heavier' riffing and Simic's more aggressive vocal lines. I just love this one! "Tears In The Rain" is an ok tune while "Kisser" rocks again with its nice rhythm! "90-50-91 Love" is a good one but lacks on the chorus line. "Push On", "Saddle The Moon" and "Mr Rock N Rolla" are all very good rocking tracks. The tune that closes the album is "Hooked On Rock N Roll". It's a typical bluesy based U.S. track. It's a laid back acoustic guitar-driven one and in my opinion the perfect way to close this debut album.
Bottom line is that THE SLAM is a very good band. "Hit It" contains some really good tracks and the whole album can be heard pleasantly. It has energy, passion, very good arrangements and the thing that what remains is if this band will take it into a higher level with a future release. A very enjoyable album. Well done!
