Nelson / Before The Rain (2010)

The phenomenal success of NELSON’s 1990 debut LP “After The Rain” was literally a dream come true, but it did not happen overnight and it wasn’t an accident. The recordings included in “Before the Rain” document the hard work that stood behind that album. “Before the Rain” tells the story of twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson and their musical journey to reach the Rock N’ Roll Promised Land. In “Before the Rain” you are going to hear the original demonstration recordings that caught the attention of A&R legend John Kalodner in late 1989 and scored Nelson a recording contract with Geffen / DGC Records which led to eventual sales of more than 3,000,000 copies of “After The Rain” and all that followed, including a World tour with over 300 concerts.

So, in this album you see twelve tracks that finally made it to "After The Rain" album and the rest, which are also demos, are tunes that for a Nelson fan are all must have and hear! The songs of "Before The Rain" that appear in "After The Rain" are all quite familier, but with small differences. The production is not so 'fat' but that is no problem at all. They are all songs that every Nelson, and not only, fan loved back then and with this listening awakes him old memories! The rest of the songs are good enough and they could stand alone as a single release, in my humble opinion. I, also, find Frontiers Records idea a very smart move to release this album this year. You see, except of "Before The Rain" album, the record company released "Perfect Storm..." but also the brand new studio album of the twins! 

All in all this is a very interesting release and a must have for every Nelson fan out there! For the rest of you that are new to the Nelson family you can start with the original "After The Rain" release.
