REVIEW : Matt Mitchell & The Coldhearts --- Matt Mitchell & The Coldhearts (MMRecordingworks, Release: 19 April 2019)

Matt Mitchell is well-known as the singer of great bands such as PRIDE, FURYON and COLOUR OF NOISE. Nowadays, this so charismatic singer is back in business with 'Matt Mitchell & The Coldhearts' to offer us, once again, a great sample of pure melodic rock bliss. After a couple, and more, spins of this new opus, I have to say that this is just an excellent rock album.

His emotional and warm voice fits perfectly with the whole album's vibe. All the songs here are well-written, well-performed and the final result will please the fans of both modern and classic melodic rock sound.

Matt says about this new record : "the main stories on this album are all about people. The people that have been part of my life, the people that have loved, cared, nurtured, hurt, inspired, broken, stayed strong, lost themselves, found themselves. Family, friends, honesty, dishonesty, music and the music business, integrity and faith. The songs in this self-titled album are inspired by all these things".

And although most of the songs are mid-tempos or in a more laid-back rock mood, I have to say that I like it a lot. The first track that impressed me the most is the acoustic and so emotional tune of "Dare You To Watch".  Man, I just love the vibe here; groovy and acoustic with Matt's amazing vocals on front row this track is splendid. "Black Diamonds" is powerful with, again, a bad-ass groove in it, crunchy guitars and it's among the highlights out of the new opus. The beautiful and more commercial "Kings And Queens", the big n' catchier rocker of "Do You Wanna Be My God" and the modern "Wave Goodbye" are songs that you're gonna listen to again and again!! Check out, also, "Everything To You" (that reminded me a bit of Mike Tramp's latest works...) which is a killer rock track.

All in all, this is a very interesting rock album all the way. The strongest point of the album are Matt Mitchell's vocals, no doubt about that. This guy has an incredible and so warm voice that 'travels' you far away. A solid rock album with an amazing singer, very good songs and strong arrangements.

Rating : 8/10
