REVIEW : JETBOY --- Born To Fly (Frontiers Music s.r.l. RELEASE DATE : 25 January 2019)

JetBoy released their great debut, "Feel The Shake", back in 1988 and it was (and still remains...) a true gem of an album. "Feel The Shake" contained some really ass-kickin' hard rock tunes and left a promise for even bigger things from this band in the future to come. A couple years later, JetBoy released "Damned Nation" (through MCA Records) and it was yet another great sample of pure hair metal/pop metal stuff.

In the years that followed, JetBoy released some good albums (demos, compilations e.t.c.) while in 2016 they released an interesting EP with the title "Off Your Rocker!". Nowadays, the band sounds stronger than ever and strikes back with a brand new opus which is entitled "Born To Fly" through Frontiers Music s.r.l. this January.

I always find JetBoy a very underrated band. With two strong albums back then, JetBoy didn't make it to become big rock stars. They had the songs, the image, the right attitude but unfortunately didn't make it. After a couple of spins of this new album, I have to say that JetBoy returned to the crime scene with yet another solid record. In my ears, "Born To Fly" sounds very 80's and it includes all the magic from that glory dayz.  Vocalist Mickey Finn says : "My feelings were to stay true to JETBOY'S roots and style, but to also incorporate where we are at today, pleasing old and new fans alike...."

"Born To Fly" features twelve tracks that bring back the glory sound of the late 80's, early 90's, with style. The whole album 'smells' from miles away 80's and it can be described as a great mix of bands such as Faster Pussycat, Cinderella, The Scream, Black Crowes, L.A.Guns and, of course, it's 100% JETBOY!!! Highlights here are the hair metal anthem of "Born To Fly", the mid-tempo "The Way That You Move Me", the edgy "All Over Again", the groovier "A Little Bit Easy" and of course, the anthemic tune of "Party Time!"!!!

"Born To Fly" is overall a great and solid album from these rockers. I think that this record is the answer that Jetboy owned to their long time fans all these years. "Born To Fly" is pure and 100% true U.S. rock 'n' roll stuff, period!!!

Rating : 8,4/10
