Faster Pussycat, the band history...

Faster Pussycat was formed in Hollywood by Taime Downe during the Glam metal boom of the 1980s, the earliest incarnation of the band featured Downe and Greg Steele along with Brent Muscat. The name of the band, "Faster Pussycat," is derived from the Russ Meyer film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

After several more member changes, Faster Pussycat soon morphed into the band's most well known line-up, consisting of Taime Downe (vocals), Greg Steele (guitar), Brent Muscat (guitar), Kelly Nickels (bass) and Mark Michals (drums). Before recording their debut album, Nickels left the group and was replaced by Eric Stacy (ex-Champagne).
In 1987, Faster Pussycat released their self-titled album which was titled "Faster Pussycat". The band managed to built a strong reputation around their name and put out several promotional videos from the first album for songs such as "Cathouse", "Bathroom Wall" and "Don't Change That Song". In 1989 it was time for the follow up album of "Faster Pussycat" titled "Wake Me When It's Over". That was a very good album and another one successful record for the Pussycats! Music videos were also produced for "House of Pain" and "Poison Ivy". While the band were touring for the album in 1990, drummer Mark Michals was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska for trying to mail heroin to his hotel room and was subsequently kicked out of the band. Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot filled in as drummer for the remainder of the tour, then Brett Bradshaw became Faster Pussycat's new long-term drummer. Tours with KISS and Mötley Crüe followed.

In 1992 they released their third album, "Whipped!", which peaked at #90 on the charts!! In 1993 the band split up and the members of the band followed different ways. In 2001 Faster Pussycat reformed featuring original members Taime Downe (vocals), Brent Muscat (guitar), Greg Steele (guitar); alongside Taime's former Newlydeads bandmates Xristian Simon (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), and Chad Stewart (drums).
A remix compilation "Between the Valley of the Ultra Pussy" was released the same year by the band, featuring industrial rock remixes (???) of their classic tracks, along with a bonus cover of KISS' "I Was Made For Loving You". This was a thing that mixed up the feelings of the old die hards of the band who loved their sleaze rock of their ealier releases and they have faced something completely different ( image and sound).
In December 2006, three former original Faster Pussycat members; Brent Muscat, Eric Stacy and Brett Bradshaw alongside The Underground Rebels vocalist Kurt Frohlich began performing under the name Faster Pussycat, creating two versions of the band both claiming to be the 'original'. Brent's claimed purpose for this was to allow fans to hear Faster Pussycat tracks played in the way they originally recorded, as opposed to the Industrial rock-themed version he said Downe continued to front. Brent also made a legal claim to the name 'Faster Pussycat'. On April 21, 2007, Muscat circulated via MySpace an open invitation to Taime Downe and Greg Steele to reunite with him, Stacy and Bradshaw. There was no response from Taime. Brent's version of Faster Pussycat toured Europe in Spring 2007 with Kurt Frohlich replacing Taime on vocals along with Todd Kerns on guitar.

In July 2007, Brent Muscat decided to drop the battle to use the name Faster Pussycat. Brent Muscat has since started a band called Sin City Sinners. Brent has stated in an interview "Faster Pussycat is dead".
Taime has continued on with the name 'Faster Pussycat.' and this band performed at Rocklahoma July 2007. During their set, Taime Downe went on a tirade to the crowd referencing Brent Muscat's cancer, wishing he would die, which received a poor reception from both the crowd and journalists. He then cut their set short and left the stage without playing several of their biggest hits.
Faster Pussycat toured for the Summer of 2008 with Tracii Guns' version of LA Guns. They toured across the U.S.
"All in all Faster Pussycat have offered some great records full of attitude, sleaze lyrics and loud guitars!!"

Crashdiet / Generation Wild (2010)

After the fantastic "New Religion" from Crazy Lixx, the very good debut album from Reckless Love, it's sleaze time again with the new Crashdiet album, which is titled "Generation Wild". I really like this band a lot. With their debut album "Rest In Sleaze", the band have offered some excellent songs with attitude and great production. Their second effort "The Unattractive Revolution", in 2007, was a bit more aggressive with a rawer sound, but a really good one. Now with "Generation Wild", the band is back in business with a hell of a record! The production is big and clear, the band seems to be tighter than ever, really impressive and huge choruses and some bigger and more technically guitar solos and riffs can be heard here! The new singer Simon Cruz, has a great and powerfull voice, and in my opinion he fits perfectly with the band. The influences from Skid Row and Motley Crue can be heard here, which sounds good to me and also some big Def Leppard backing vocals are very good too. Highlights here are the whole album, so all you have to do is to buy this cd! A highlight for this year's top10!

Thunder / Backstreet Symphony (1991)

This is simply the best album that this British hard rock act have ever recorded! "Backstreet Symphony" was released back in 1991 and was the debut album for Thunder. Their music here is pure hard rock with a little dose of bluesy elements and a strong attitude. Daniel Bowes has a rough and strong voice while the rest of the band is tight with a strong musicianship and the result of all these things is this perfect album. Thunder back then had all the things to make them big in the music market, and they did it! Ok maybe not in the U.S. market, but in Europe they made a good reputation around their name. As I said, what we have here is an 11 track album full of great hooks and catchy choruses, very good guitar work from the duo of  Luke Morley and Ben Matthews, a strong production from Andy Taylor and some great songwriting! This is an album without a filler, every single track here rocks, so do a favour to yourself and go buy this gem . This is an album that can't be missed from any rock collection! Highly recommended! Pretty Maids / Wake Up In The Real World (2006)

After the average "Planet Panic", Pretty Maids are back with "Wake Up In The Real World". An album back to their roots. The melodies are back, the big choruses, the melodic lines and the huge guitar work are also back! Ronnie Atkins voice is on top form and it takes only a few minutes to realize that the Pretty Maids that we knew are back in business. The album starts with "Wake Up To The Real World", a hard edged track with a huge melodic chorus line. " All In The Name Of Love " is another highlight of the album which combines the heavy riffing with the amazing melodic chorus. " As Guilty As You" and " Another Shot Of Your Love " are both very melodic tunes, more mid-tempos but with memorable choruses, classic Maids! One of my favourite tracks in this album is "Terminal Violence". A really heavy track with a catchy as hell hook, brilliant!! One of the strongest point of this release is the amazing guitar work from Ken Hammer, amazing riffs and inspired solos from one of my favourite guitarists. Thanx God, Planet Panic's sound is long gone and the melodic hard rock sounding is back. Overall this is an excellent comeback album from this great band. A must have!

Y & T / Ten (1990)

This is a great album from Y&T, in fact this is one of the best albums that this band had ever recorded. I' m not a big fan of Y&T 's earlier works, but I have to admit that this band had recorded some really excellent albums in the past. With "Ten", Y&T are moving into a more hair metal paths, 1990 was a great year for hair metal acts, and the result is awesome! A more commercial sound, great melodies, fantastic guitar work and a big production makes this album one of the best and more underatted albums of that era! Highlights? I think that the whole album rocks big time and it's very difficult for someone to find a weak moment!

Alice Cooper / Hey Stoopid (1991)

"Hey Stoopid" album, which was released in 1991, follows the more hair metal sound of the huge 'Trash". Great pop-metal anthems with catchy memorable choruses, Cooper's voice on top form, a big production, a couple of MTV hits and some really amazing guitar work makes this album a must have! "Feed My Frankenstein " is, for me, the huge moment here. Is a track that stucks in your mind from the very first moment with its heavy rhythm and its fantastic chorus. A song that featured on the "Wayne's World" film. "Love's a Loaded Gun " was the big hit of that album and an MTV air play back then. "Hey Stoopid " is anthemic with a catchy chorus. "Dirty Dreams " is a classic pop-metal anthem of that era, with cool lyrics!!
Alice Cooper in "Hey Stoopid" co-operates again with some of the biggest names of heavy rock such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Vinnie Moore, Ozzy & members of Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, and Zodiac Mindwarp.

Bret Michaels Hospitalized After Brain Hemorrhage

Bret Michaels is reportedly in an intensive care unit after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage in his brain stem. According to People, after Michaels complained of an excruciating headache last night, the Poison frontman and Celebrity Apprentice contestant was rushed to an unspecified hospital where doctors diagnosed him with bleeding in his brain stem. The singer is currently in critical condition. "After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. [It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation," a source tells People.

The hemorrhage is Michaels' second health scare in as many weeks. On April 12th, the 46-year-old rocker underwent an emergency appendectomy while on tour in San Antonio, Texas. Initially, Michaels attempted to battle through the pain and perform the show as scheduled. "They told me that if I had gone onstage like I wanted to, [my appendix] likely would have ruptured and I could have died," Michaels later told fans while recovering from the surgery. The procedure forced Michaels to postpone tour dates as well as miss making a cameo in Rihanna's "Rockstar 101" video, Michaels' official site reports. Michaels is also a diabetic and is competing on The Celebrity Apprentice to raise money for the American Diabetes Association.

DOKKEN - the band history....

Dokken was first formed around 1978 when Don Dokken teamed up with Jim Monanteras, Greg Leon, and Mick Brown. In 1979, Don Dokken went to Germany to sing background vocals on the upcoming Scorpions album Blackout in order to assist the band's vocalist Klaus Meine who was suffering from a vocal ailment. "Breaking the Chains" was the first release with Carrere Records, a label in Germany, under the name "Don Dokken", but shortly thereafter, Don met up with George Lynch and Mick Brown, who were playing a band called Xciter at the time. With the addition of Juan Croucier, Dokken finally had a steady line-up.

Juan Croucier left Dokken in 1983 to join the band Ratt and was replaced by Jeff Pilson. 1984 became Dokken's breakout year in the US with the release of the album "Tooth and Nail" on September 13. The album contained several hit songs including "Just Got Lucky", "Alone Again", and "Into The Fire". This was a huge success for the band while the album sold million of copies worldwide! 1985, and the band releasing their third album that titled " Under Lock and Key ". It also had a big success with the singles "In My Dreams", "The Hunter" and "It's Not Love". Dokken returned to the studio in December 1986 to record "Dream Warriors", a song for the movie A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. So, in 1987 Dokken releasing the album "Back for the Attack". An album that till now is a classic record, with songs such as "Burning Like a Flame", "Heaven Sent", "Kiss of Death" and "Dream Warriors" . Maybe the band's more successful release. After this release, the band toured in the Uk and Japan and they recorded a live album that titled " Beast from the East " in 1988.
After the extensive 1988 tour, the band broke up due to creative and personal differences between Don Dokken and George Lynch. During this hiatus, Lynch and Brown formed Lynch Mob and recorded two albums: Wicked Sensation in 1990 and Lynch Mob in 1992. Don Dokken also recorded a solo album, titled "Up from the Ashes" in 1990.

After this break, the band decided to re-unite and they released the album "Dysfunctional" in 1995. During the tour supporting Dysfunctional, however, old tensions between George and Don had resurfaced and the band once again began to split apart. "One Live Night", a live acoustic album was released in 1996 by a new label, CMC, and was followed with "Shadowlife" in 1997. "Shadowlife" was the band's last effort with axe man George Lynch. The sound of this album was far away from the band's classic sound and received negative reviews from the press back then!

Needing a guitarist to fill in on the scheduled dates, Don Dokken looked to Europe guitarist John Norum, who had previously played on his 1990 solo album and was familiar with the band's catalog, to help him finish the tour. After the European tour, guitarist John Norum was unable to continue with the band as he had previously committed to another solo record. The band then hired former Winger guitarist Reb Beach for the job, and recorded an album with this line-up in 1999, titled "Erase the Slate" to signify a new beginning for the band, and it was a record back to their roots. Dokken released another live album titled "Live from the Sun" in 2000 before the departure of guitarist Beach. Bassist Jeff Pilson also left the band and was replaced by Barry Sparks. This line-up released the album "Long Way Home", but Norum suffered a hand injury during the band's 2003 spring tour of Europe in support of the album, and had to be replaced by Alex De Rosso, previously of the Italian metal band Dark Lord. That year, Dokken was featured in the Metal Edge Rock Fest tour along with Ratt, FireHouse, and other similar acts. In 2004, guitarist Jon Levin joined the band and they released "Hell to Pay" album. An overall decent Dokken album, with the melodies and the classic guitar sound of their earlier works to come back again. The CD, titled From "Conception: Live 1981", is a previously unreleased live recording from the band's early years which Don discovered in their master vault.

On May 13, 2008, Dokken released their first studio album in four years titled "Lightning Strikes Again", which was met with increased commercial success and became the band's highest charting album in 13 years when it debuted at #133 in the United States. A back to their classic sound album! Don Dokken told interviewers that Jon Levin was the bandmate who wanted the band to make an album with the classic sound in mind, and remarked that the process was difficult, saying: "I had to get back in that mindset. This is what the fans wanted, and if I stay focused on that I would give them a straight-ahead Dokken record".
So, lets hope for a new album by Dokken in the near future, and why not....with their classic line-up!!

Sonata Arctica / The Days of Grays (2009)

Sonata Arctica formed back in 1996 and the band members were vocalist Tony Kakko, guitarist Jani Liimatainen, drummer Tommy Portimo, keyboardist Mikko Harkin, and bassist Janne Kivilahti. Their first single was "UnOpened", which was released on Spinefarm Records in July of 1999. Sonata Arctica have released some very good albums such as “Winterheart’s Guild” and “Reckoning Night”. What we have here is a fine album full of catchy vocal melodies, great orchestrations and an overall good production. Ok, this one is a bit different from their previous works, cause of some darker elements and some experiments in their sound, but in my opinion is a very good album. All in all this album is a fine example of good music from a very good band, which shows some more maturity in their songwriting. I think that this album will take a few more spins but in the end you will discover a damn good album!

Dokken / Erase The Slate (1999)

After the very average "Shadowlife" in 1997, Dokken are back with this effort, "Erase The Slate", and it's a back to their unique sound. For the first time, George Lynch is out of the band and Reb Beach is the one who takes over the hard part to replace Mr. Scary. And the result is almost perfect! Reb Beach is a fantastic guitar player, his earlier works with Winger can prove that. Don Dokken's vocal performances are superb and the band is tighter than ever. Maybe it could be better if the title of the album was "Born Again"! The CD opens with power with the guitar-driving title track "Erase the Slate", a strong track to start the album! In every track each listener can discover a catchy chorus, a huge solo by Beach, melodies mixed with heavy riffs  and a sound which brings back in our memories the Dokken that we love. There is no need to compare "Erase The Slate" with any other record from Dokken, this album was a new chapter in their musical jouney.

Cinderella /Heartbreak Station (1990)

This is an amazing record! After the "long cold winter" album, Cinderella continues to the same Rock N' Roll bluesy paths again with "Heartbreak Station". The songwriting is once again very strong, the performances are tighter and the Rock N' Roll feeling is diffused in all over the album. Ok maybe with this effort Cinderella are long gone from the more heavy rock forms of their huge debut album, but this one rocks with its unique way. "The More Things Change ", "Make Your Own Way " and "Shelter Me " are great up-tempo rockers full of sing-a-long choruses and a party feeling, while "Heartbreak Station " is a sensational ballad, maybe one of the best rock tunes of that era, a classic song! All in all this is another one great release from Cinderella. A more bluesy sound but overall great!

Dokken / Dysfunctional (1995)

This is the album that devided the die hard fans of the band.  I remember back in 1995 when this album came out that there were a lot of negative feedback about this CD. For a lot of fans "Dysfunctional" is an average album. For me is a very good album! A more mature sound in this one, very good songwriting, Don's voice is amazing and Mr. Scary delivers some super solos and riffs. The sound may be a little darker than in their previous works but overall is a very strong release. Highlights here are "Too High To Fly", a really breathtaking tune which kicks hard from start to finish. The very good and hard rockin' tune of "Inside Looking Out " which opens the album in such a great way, "Lesser of Two Evils " and "Nothing Left to Say" are also some other very good songs from this album! All in all this is another one strong effort from Dokken.
