Interview with guitarist David Agüera of Melodic Hard Rock band HARDREAMS

THE STORY : Hardreams is a melodic rock band from Spain. Everything started in 2000 in a small village called Ripollet (Barcelona). Hardreams released their first long-length work, which was called "CALLING EVERYWHERE”, in 2002. It was mixed and masterized by the famous music and producer Carlos Creator, in Rockstudios, Bilbao. This work included eleven songs, where there is a mixture of different styles but keeping in the hard A.O.R.

Their second album, "THE ROAD GOES ON ..." , was released in all over the world, on 20th May 2008. Once the album was out, the group focused on their live presentation, offering a series of shows, among which we could highlight sharing stage with the Californians L. A. GUNS in Barcelona and their participation in the MELODIC FEST festival in Madrid, with some of the most notable hard rock / AOR Spanish bands.

This year Hardreams have a brand new live album which is called : "Live... on a dreamers night". Below you can read the interview that guitarist David Agüera gave to Heavy Paradise!

-FIRSTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR ACCEPTING MY INVITATION FOR THIS INTERVIEW.

OK, you are welcome, thanks to you too.

- SO, YOU HAVE A NEW, LIVE, ALBUM WHICH IS CALLED "LIVE...ON A DREAMERS NIGHT". CAN YOU TELL ME A FEW THINGS ABOUT THIS RELEASE?

Well, we had not ever thought in releasing a live album but when we opened for Jimi Jamison we had the oportunity of recording the concert, after that we went to the studio and we thought that the sound was great and decided release the album,I think that having a live album is one thing that every rock band would like to have.

- WILL YOU INTRODUCE ME THE BAND AND, ALSO, TELL ME SOME THINGS ABOUT THE BAND'S HISTORY?

We are a hard rock band from Barcelona,we started in the year 2000 when Sergio Hormigo (Drums player) and I decided looking for musicians and forming a band with a melodic sound,we played together in a power metal band called Hailstorm but when two members left the band I met Manu Esteve (Singer) in a radio program and we talked about forming a band,a little time later we met Victor Muiño (Bass player)and this was the beginning.

- I'VE NOTICED THAT YOU HAD A CONTRACT WITH PERRIS RECORDS. HOW SO AND DIDN'T REACH A RECORD COMPANY FROM EUROPE? IS IT HARD NOWADAYS FOR A BAND TO GET A GOOD RECORD DEAL?

When we recorded our second album the only label interested in our work was Perris Records, we are living the worst moment in the music bussines and if just one label is interested in a band that is a miracle.

- I HAVE TO SAY THAT I'M REALLY IMPRESSED OF YOUR LATEST RELEASE, "THE ROAD GOES ON". IT'S ONE OF THESE ALBUMS THAT GRABS YOU FROM THE VERY FIRST LISTENING. DURING THE LAST YEARS MORE AND MORE 'NEW' BANDS ARE RELEASING SOME GREAT ALBUMS. HOW DO YOU SEE THE MELODIC HARD ROCK SCENE OF THE 00'S ?

There are a lot of good bands of hard rock but currently is very difficult selling cds, we have no support from the press, just specialized press, but is not enouhg, in Spain our style doesn,t have a big audience and the bands cannot keep their acitivities. Playing hard rock nowadays is very difficult what we have to do is making good music without thinking in nothing more.

- CAN YOU PICK UP A SONG , FROM YOUR ALBUMS, AS A FAVOURITE AND WHY?

That is very difficult,I can´t tell you what is my favourite song because all songs are special for me,always there is a song that you like more but the time pass and you change your favourite one.

- WHICH ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?

Our influencies are the rock bands from the eighties such as Journey,Whitesnake,Dokken,Survivor,Van Hallen,Bon Jovi, but we also drink from the fountain of heavy metal bands and progressive rock bands such as Queensrÿche or Dream Theater.

- THE NET IS A PRETTY GOOD WAY FOR BANDS TO PROMOTE THEIR MUSIC. ON THE OTHER HAND, WITH ALL THE ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING IT'S DIFFICULT TO BRING SOME SALES! WHAT'S YOUR OPINION ABOUT THAT?

Yes, internet gives you a lot of possibilities to promote your band but about the sales what you don´t have to think is earning much money selling cds, maybe without internet we wouldn´t have the oportunity of making our music sound worldwide, you have advantages and disadvantages.

- HOW DIFFICULT IS FOR SOMEONE TO BE A MUSICIAN THESE DAYS? DOES MUSIC EARNS YOU ENOUGH MONEY TO HAVE THE MUSIC AS AN EVERY DAY JOB?

No,playing in a rock band you have to forget earning enough money for living, if we could earn money just for not to pay the recording or the petrol when we go to do a concert we would be satisfied.
- ARE YOU PLANNING FOR A NEXT RECORD?

Yes,we would like to start to record in the beginning of next year.

- I READ IN YOUR SITE THAT YOU HAVE SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME GREAT ARTISTS, SUCH AS BAD HABIT, DANNY VAUGHN AND FIREHOUSE AMONG OTHERS. CAN YOU TELL ME YOUR EXPERIENCES FROM THESE LIVE PERFORMANCES?

It was fantastic,we have a great remembrance of that experience, the artists were very friendly with us and we had the oportunity of playing in great places, great stages in front of a lot of people.

- HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELVES IN 10 YEARS FROM NOW?

We love play music,so together or separate we will continue playing.

- ANY MESSAGE TO YOUR FANS?

I just can say that the music is a very difficult way and they have to have a lot of patience, we are working hard to release a new album next year.

- THANKS A LOT FOR THIS INTERVIEW, IT WAS A GREAT PLEASURE FOR ME.

Thanks and keep in touch.
