HAREM SCAREM / OVER:LOAD (2005)

After two years from the succesfull "Higher", the Canadian melodic rockers are with a new album which is titled "Over:load". The previous two albums, "Weight Of The World" and "Higher", were both superb pieces of melodic hard rock/AOR stuff mixing the band's earlier elements with some 'modern' melodic rock sound as well.

This time Harem Scarem is back to some 'darker', ala "Voice Of Reason", more modern but, also, some heavier paths as well. The fact is that I was impressed by Harem Scarem's two previous albums , "W.O.T.W." & "Higher", and I was expecting something in the same vain. But with this band you don't know what to expect with each and every record. For example the opening track of "Dagger" is probably the heaviest and most aggressive track that this band has ever recorded. It's a straight forward in-your-face rocker with Hess's aggressive vocal performances go ahead!! "Can't Live With You" is my personal favourite from this album. It is a typical Harem Scarem mid-tempo tune that could easily appear in any of Def Leppard's recent release. Other highlights here are "All You're Getting" , "Rise And Fall" and "Afterglow".

All in all, this is an interesting release. It's a grower and takes you some time to get into this. It's not so catchy as the two previous albums were but for the fans of Harem Scarem is a must have.
