HAREM SCAREM / HIGHER (2003)

Harry Hess and Pete Lesperance is a winning duo, there's no doubt about that. They have offered two of the most valuable albums in the melodic hard rock scene ever! Their first release and "Mood Swings" were and still are classic!!

After these two albums, they've changed their style to a more heavier-dark sound and that was a thing that mixed-up the feelings of their fans a lot. But the most important thing of Harem Scarem was and still is the melody!! Yes, modern or not this band is capable to deliver a strong melody line and a catchy chorus line!

In 2003, the band released "Higher" and it was a very interesting release! All the things that an ordinary fan of Harem Scarem wants can be found here. Melodies, choruses, incredible guitar work and a tight musicianship are the things that can be heard in "Higher". Of course, the 'modern' melodic elements are obvious but that fits perfectly with the album's sound. "Reach" starts off in a typical Harem Scarem tempo. This tune is heavy, melodic and has a huge chorus line. "Waited" is a huge song and is probably one of the best tunes that this band has ever recorded. "Torn Right Out" is another personal favourite while "Give It To You" has more attitude and a chorus line to die for!!  "Run And Hide", "Lies" and "Gone" are all three superb pieces of 'modern' melodic rock stuff!!

Overall this is a great album all the way! The only negative point here is the small running time.
