I'm really a lucky man to see Bonfire several times performing live and I have to admit that it's a great band on stage! Nowadays, Bonfire is ready to unleash its brand new opus entitled "Higher Ground" via Frontiers Music.
Founder member and guitarist Hans Ziller expresses his enthusiasm for the new album: “The new Bonfire album is a masterpiece. Bonfire has reinvented themselves with “Higher Ground”, never neglecting their virtues - fat hard guitars, incredible solos, great choir passages and stirring vocals. The band plays as one and is at its best.”
The first highlight of the new record comes in with the heavy and classic Bonfire tune of "I Will Rise". Screaming guitars, a heavy late 80's sound and a nice chorus makes this track a great opener!! "Higher Ground" is a more straight-forward hard rocker that reminded me a lot of this band's earlier works. In "I Died Tonight" the band delivers a more 'commercial' hard rock anthem with a more sing-a-long chorus, a fantastic hook and an overall more U.S. flavoured style! The power ballad of "When Love Comes Down" is a nice one while in "Come Hell Or High Water" and "Jealousy" we have two good enough and more metallic tracks. Closing, we have a nice and 'fresh' version of Bonfire's classic "Rock N Roll Survivor".
Closing, I have to add a couple things about this new Bonfire opus; first off all, I have to say that I really enjoyed a lot Dyan Mair's vocals here and secondly I miss a couple or more highlights here! An overall strong release from Bonfire that will be appreciated by most of this legendary band fans ou there!
