Dirtbag Republic are a Vancouver Rock N Roll band featuring Mick Wood on lead guitar, Sandy Hazard on vocals/drums and Andrew Cairns on rhythm guitar, Kyle Richardson on Bass.
To get a picture of how Dirtybag Republic sounds of, imagine a cool mix of early Aerosmith, Hanoi Rocks and N.Y. Dolls with a strong dose of punky Rock 'n' Roll and there you have it!!
The opening tune of "Junkie Girl" is just brilliant!! Old-fashioned rock 'n' roll with attitude, loud guitars, some in-your-face vocals and a super catchy chorus that makes you sing-a-long. "Homeless" is yet another fast-paced rocker that includes a cool up-tempo rhythm, a loud chorus line and crunchy guitars. "My Part Of Town", "Fantasy World" and "Swing And A Miss" are all three solid songs, in the same vain of the two previous ones while in "Don't Shoot Your Mouth Off" the band delivers another very 80's track with lots of attitude. The punkier "Free Falling" is another highlight out of this new album.
For sure, Dirtbag Republic with this new record, "Downtown Eastside", delivers a very interesting and, of course, a very enjoyable opus all the way. As I mentioned above, their sound recalls to bands such as Hanoi Rocks, early Aerosmith, N.Y. Dolls and in some parts The Almighty, without loosing their own identity. The punkier elements are givin' an extra flavor to the final result and, at the end, makes this album a pleasant listening from start to finish.
