REVIEW : Thundermother, Black and Gold (AFM Records Release: 19 August 2022)

With already four albums on their sleeves and many live shows, Swedish female old-school rock 'n' roll THUNDERMOTHER is ready to unleash its brand new opus entitled "Black And Gold". The new effort is out through AFM Records.

Nässil and her three bandmates Guernica Mancini (vocals), Emlee Johansson (drums) and Mona Lindgren (bass) have continued to evolve in every respect. Filippa: “For us, it was all about taking the next step in the wake of our 2020 release ‘Heat Wave’. That’s why important adjustments were made to get to an even higher level with ‘Black And Gold’. We cut full demo versions of a total of twenty song concepts and played them to friends and colleagues so we could choose the twelve strongest tracks based on their evaluation.”

So, the question here is what to expect from the new Thundermother opus? The answer is simply; ass-kickin', in-your-face and powerful heavy rock 'n' roll stuff with loud guitars, loud vocals and full of attitude! No matter if you like female fronted rock or not, what you have to love these four ladies for their music, that's a fact!

"Black And Gold" is a true ass-kickin' heavy rock dynamite, "Raise Your Hands" reminded me a bit of HALESTORM, "Wasted" and "Loud And Free" are both fast-paced, powerful and must be played on a maximum volume!! The heavier "Try With Love" is yet another cool tune out of the new effort while in the power ballad of "Borrowed Time" we are dealing with one of the best tunes out of "Black And Gold".

Thundermother with their brand new "Black And Gold" deliver a really powerful, ass-kickin', in-your-face and old-school heavy rock record that must be played really loud!!
