ANGELINE / Confessions (2010)

THE STORY : ANGELINE was founded back in the spring of 1987 in a town called Ljusdal in the lower part of northern Sweden. Having been influenced by bands like BON JOVI, EUROPE, IRON MAIDEN and QUEENSRYCHE, they found a suitable style that they all liked something between hard rock and AOR.  They have also participated in many festivals and played with big names, back then, such as Pretty Maids and Candlemass to name a few. 1989 proved to be a tough year for the band, though. Singer Jörgen (nicknamed "Sigge") got real sick and had to be in the hospital for 2 months. As he also had a bad heart condition, apart from this disease, it was very hard for him to get back in shape after the sickness. In 1995 Sigge had to be put in hospital again, for a heart surgery. After a first surgery he went home to gain strength, to be able to make a second surgery during 1995. Sadly enough, he never made it that far. He died in his sleep on February 13, 1995. The rest of the guys took it really hard, in spite of the fact that they knew this could happen. They continued playing, but in total loss of any spirit.
In 2004 some friends of Sigge made a short film about him and his life. The film is called "Sigge Stardust" and it made a big impact at Göteborgs filmfestival in 2005.
In October 2007 the band once again reunited for a one off show at the “Sigge” bi-annual family day. Angeline has since recorded a bunch of new tracks and on the 19th of February 2010 they released their first new album in 20 years.
THE REVIEW:  So, what we have in our hands is another one very good album full of melodies and big influences from bands such as Harem Scarem, Bon Jovi or even FM. The lead singer, Jocke Nilsson, has a very good and smooth voice while the guitar work from Janne Arkegren is also pretty good with some nice melodies and very good riffs and solos. The production is overall good and the songwritting is tight. Ok, this one is not something that has never been heard before but for sure is a very good melodic hard rock release which is very enjoyable from start to finish!
